Suma Impact Foundation, promoted by Suma Capital, and Triodos Bank, a leading European values-based banking institution, have reached a strategic collaboration agreement to promote territorial regeneration and a just transition with social and environmental impact.

The alliance is part of the launch of the Suma Alliance, a network that brings together financial, business, social and academic stakeholders to scale high-impact projects. In this context, Suma Impact Foundation and Triodos Bank will promote joint initiatives focused on knowledge, outreach and networking related to ecological transition, health, education and territorial cohesion.

The agreement allows both entities to combine complementary capabilities. On the one hand, Triodos Bank’s expertise in impact finance, and on the other, Suma Impact Foundation’s mission to activate knowledge, partnerships and philanthropic resources where they can help accelerate long-term solutions.

Impact Territories. Collaborative financing for local impact

The collaboration between Suma Impact Foundation and Triodos Foundation takes shape through Impact Territories, a matchfunding programme aimed at supporting small organisations working on social cohesion and environmental regeneration through Nature-Based Solutions. The programme combines collective financing and institutional contributions to multiply the impact of selected projects.

Within this framework, Triodos Foundation will manage the crowdfunding platform and support participating organisations in designing their campaigns, while Suma Impact Foundation will contribute to identifying, selecting and monitoring projects, as well as providing a €20,000 non-repayable funding pool for the initiatives.

Among the projects currently selected under Impact Territories are two territorial initiatives linked to Alt Empordà: Pioneers of Our Time and The Regen Institute.

Pioneers of Our Time works in the La Muga basin (Girona), a territory of more than 100,000 hectares facing challenges related to water management, wildfires, biodiversity and land-use pressure. Its goal is to catalyse a territorial regeneration process together with key local stakeholders, with an approach that can be replicated in other Mediterranean watersheds.

The Regen Institute, meanwhile, promotes regenerative agriculture models aimed at improving soil health, strengthening farm resilience and advancing practices capable of generating environmental, social and economic benefits in the territory.

“The contribution of Suma Capital to the ecological transition does not end with investment. At Suma Impact Foundation, we aim to strengthen the ecosystem that makes a just transition possible by mobilising knowledge, partnerships and financing where traditional capital does not always reach. The collaboration with Triodos Bank and Triodos Foundation allows us to move forward with a concrete, territorial and measurable model,” says José Luis Ruiz de Munain, Managing Director of Suma Impact Foundation.

“This agreement reinforces a shared conviction: the ecological and social transition requires new forms of collaboration between financial institutions, foundations, companies, social organisations and local stakeholders. At Triodos Bank, we have been financing transformative impact projects in Spain for over 20 years, and we know that capital generates more change when it is directed not only towards short-term impact but also towards long-term vision, the ability to build alliances and measurable benefits for people and the environment,” says Yolanda Minguito, Head of Business Banking at Triodos Bank Spain.

“This alliance reinforces our commitment to financing that generates positive impact on society and the environment. The challenge is not only to mobilise capital, but to direct it towards tangible solutions, and this collaboration with Suma Impact Foundation allows us to continue moving precisely towards our purpose,” adds Elena Hernando, Head of Triodos Foundation.

Other knowledge initiatives promoted by Suma Impact Foundation

Suma Impact Foundation also develops other knowledge and outreach initiatives that reflect its role as a platform to accelerate a just ecological transition.

Among them is Suma Natura, an initiative developed together with Hospital Sant Joan de Déu, a leading paediatric healthcare institution, focused on analysing the relationship between contact with nature and the health of children and adolescents. The project aims to generate and transfer useful knowledge to families, schools, healthcare professionals and policymakers, with the goal of promoting healthier environments more connected to nature.

Suma Impact Foundation also promotes the Suma Net Zero Index, a study that analyses how Spanish society perceives and responds to the need to reduce emissions, contributing to the decarbonisation debate from a social, economic and public legitimacy perspective.

Financing focused on transformative impact

Triodos Bank has more than 45 years of experience in transformative impact finance in Europe and over 20 years in Spain. In 2025, the Triodos Group financed more than €1.1 billion in new business loans linked to these transitions and reached a total loan and investment portfolio of €10.4 billion, focusing on sectors that generate social, environmental and cultural value. In Spain, its total net lending reached €1.633 billion at the end of 2025.
