Three Catalan startups have raised €7.4 million from the European innovation funds of the EIC Accelerator. These are the emerging companies UniSCool (Lleida, El Segrià), Oxolife (Barcelona) and Mitiga Solutions (Barcelona). All three are among the 61 companies selected by the European Commission in the latest round of this program aimed at financing the most innovative business projects with social and market impact across Europe.
In order to prepare their applications and facilitate access to the call, the Catalan startups received support from ACCIÓ, the agency for business growth under the Department of Business and Labour.
The three Catalan projects selected by the European Commission after presenting their proposals before a jury in Brussels are the following:
UniSCool:
The company will receive a grant of €2.5 million and may obtain up to €2.5 million in co-investment from the EIC Fund. This startup produces liquid cooling systems aimed directly at chips and focused on reducing the energy consumption of data centers. UniSCool’s adaptive system allows cooling only where and when it is needed, reducing energy consumption by up to 50% compared to current solutions.
Founded in 2022 as a spin-off from the University of Lleida, it currently employs 7 people and was recognized by ACCIÓ in 2025 as a Catalonia Exponential Leader. In addition, it is the first company to obtain EIC Accelerator funding through the Plug-in process, a seal awarded by the European Commission to ACCIÓ’s Startup Capital grant, allowing beneficiary companies to skip the first selection filter of the EIC Accelerator.
According to UniSCool’s co-founder and COO, Montse Vilarrubí, receiving these funds “represents a very significant boost for our project and will allow us to take a major step forward.” She added that “the support of ACCIÓ, first through the Startup Capital grant and then through the mock pitch session, has enabled us to arrive in Brussels very well prepared.”
Oxolife:
The company will receive a grant of €2.5 million and may obtain up to €10 million in co-investment from the EIC Fund. Focused on women’s health, Oxolife has developed a non-hormonal oral pill that improves embryo implantation rates in in vitro fertilization processes thanks to its endometrium-preparing effects.
The company has already demonstrated in preclinical stages and in initial patient trials that its pill increases the probability of successful embryo implantation from the current 30–35% to over 50%, as well as a 7% increase in the number of births in these processes. Founded in 2013, Oxolife currently has a team of five people.
According to Oxolife’s CEO and founder, Agnès Arbat, “this grant will allow us to reach the next stage to better define the target patient profile or begin preparing the commercialization of the pill. In addition, we will be able to expand the team by seven more people.” She also noted that “in such a competitive process, where all companies have innovative projects and are well prepared, ACCIÓ’s support in preparing the final presentation has helped us improve our narrative and our answers to the jury’s questions.”
Mitiga Solutions:
The company will receive a grant of €2.4 million and may obtain up to €6 million in co-investment from the EIC Fund. Specialized in climate intelligence solutions, it has created an advanced analytics platform specifically designed for the energy sector, capable of assessing with high resolution and operational accuracy how evolving climate conditions may influence performance, degradation and operating costs of renewable energy assets such as solar and wind farms, as well as grid infrastructure.
This approach enables operators to anticipate production losses, identify vulnerabilities and prioritize resilience investments in critical infrastructure for the energy transition. Founded in 2018 as the first spin-off of the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC), Mitiga Solutions currently has a team of 65 people and was recognized by ACCIÓ in 2023 as a Catalonia Exponential Leader.
According to Mitiga Solutions’ CEO, Alejandro Martí, this grant “represents a decisive boost to accelerate the scaling of our technology and bring it to the energy sector at a time when infrastructure resilience is critical. The EIC’s support allows us to move faster in transferring to the market a solution created from years of scientific research and validation with real operators.”
The EIC Accelerator is the European Commission’s program to support startups and SMEs with highly innovative projects that generate a positive impact on European society. It offers grants of up to €2.5 million and equity investments between €500,000 and €10 million following a multi-stage selection process that culminates in project presentations before a jury in Brussels.
In addition to financial support, the EIC Accelerator provides access to acceleration services and connections with experts, investors, corporations and leading innovation ecosystems. In this latest round, it has funded 61 European companies from 17 different countries with a total budget exceeding €450 million. In 28% of cases, these are women-led companies, as is the case for two of the three Catalan beneficiary companies.
This is the second EIC Accelerator call resolved in 2025. In the first one, two other Catalan companies obtained funding: Neural Trust (€2.4 million) and Nextmolt (€2.5 million). In total, the five Catalan companies that have benefited from the two 2025 calls have received €12.3 million.
ACCIÓ provides support to Catalan startups to prepare their proposals for the EIC Accelerator. Thanks to the Plug-in seal awarded by the European Commission to ACCIÓ’s Startup Capital grant, beneficiary companies can skip the first selection filter of the EIC Accelerator and move directly to its second phase.
ACCIÓ’s support also includes a mock final interview with the participation of experts and other Catalan companies that have previously obtained EIC Accelerator funding.
