Eatable Adventures, a global leader in Foodtech acceleration, with the support of IDB Lab, the innovation and venture capital arm of the Inter-American Development Bank Group, is driving the launch of FoodRise, the new regional hub created to transform the food system of the Southern Cone by connecting technology, collaboration, and impact.
The Southern Cone is currently one of the regions with the highest productive capacity in the world, yet it continues to face critical challenges in terms of food access. According to FAO, in 2023 more than 110 million people in Latin America suffered moderate or severe food insecurity. In this context, Eatable Adventures is activating FoodRise as a strategic hub to promote innovative technological solutions that strengthen food security in the region, especially among vulnerable populations struggling to consistently access nutritious food.
FoodRise is structured around three key pillars: startup acceleration, industry empowerment through innovative solutions, and ecosystem building. The hub connects startups, corporations, governments, and investors from Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, and Paraguay to scale innovations that improve food production, preservation, distribution, and access.
Its first initiative will be the launch of an acceleration program for Southern Cone startups, focused on triple impact solutions (economic, environmental, and social). The workstreams include entrepreneurial projects tackling the sector’s most pressing challenges: extending food shelf life, reducing waste and residues, improving nutritional value, developing healthier alternative ingredients, and optimizing processes, logistics, packaging, and retail.
Latin America captures only 2% of global venture capital (World Bank) and continues to lag behind in innovation according to the Global Innovation Index 2024. Through FoodRise, Eatable Adventures seeks to attract international investment and accelerate regulatory frameworks so that the Southern Cone’s science and talent can become scalable, sustainable solutions.
With this launch, Eatable Adventures marks a new milestone in its global expansion, extending its international network of hubs and strategic acceleration programs in Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East. Following the recent creation of the Colombia Agrifood Innovation Hub and the Raíces program, the company now reinforces its support for the entrepreneurial ecosystem and agri-food corporations in the region through this new project, which will initially run for three years.
“With FoodRise we are taking a decisive step in our mission to design the food system of the future. This hub not only connects the key players of the ecosystem but also strengthens our commitment to Latin America as a strategic region for the development of solutions with global impact. At Eatable Adventures, we believe in the power of innovation to turn challenges into opportunities, and with FoodRise we are activating a platform that brings together science, talent, and investment to generate real and lasting impact on the global food system.”— Mila Valcárcel, Managing Partner of Eatable Adventures
