CDTI is preparing a new edition of the “Science and Innovation Misiones 2026” program, one of the main funding lines for large-scale R&D projects carried out through business collaboration.
The call will be structured into two separate programmes:
Both lines aim to promote strategic projects aligned with major national challenges, strengthening business competitiveness, strategic autonomy, sustainability, inclusion and equality, and the demographic challenge.
The call is expected to be published in May 2026.
The civil call will focus on seven major strategic areas, which will define funding opportunities:
Below is a summary of the approach and scope of each mission:
This mission aims to develop a more resilient, secure and sustainable energy system, with renewable energy playing a key role.
To achieve this, the programme will particularly promote solutions in smart grids and energy storage (chemical, thermal, mechanical or hybrid), which are essential to manage renewable generation, improve grid stability, and strengthen resilience in critical scenarios.
Indicative actions include:
The aviation sector must meet strong global demand while reducing its environmental impact, making decarbonisation a central driver.
The mission seeks to strengthen Spain’s industrial capacity and advance towards more sustainable aviation through technologies in materials, propulsion efficiency, and electrification.
Projects will focus on three main pillars:
This mission addresses the growing challenge of antimicrobial resistance through a comprehensive One Health approach, covering human, animal and environmental health.
It aims to promote solutions beyond antibiotics, combining capabilities in diagnostics, prevention, innovative therapies and digital technologies to improve detection, treatment and infection control.
Key areas include:
This mission seeks to strengthen Spain’s technological sovereignty in security and defence by developing critical, high-R&D capabilities.
It will promote advanced technologies, many of them dual-use, aimed at improving resilience, operational capacity and autonomy in complex environments.
Priority areas include:
This mission aims to reduce health inequalities derived from the lack of a gender perspective by promoting research into diseases with higher prevalence or severity in women.
It will support solutions that improve diagnosis, treatment and quality of life, especially in under-researched areas.
Key areas include:
This mission aims to strengthen the strategic autonomy of the agri-food sector, reducing external dependence and improving resilience to climate change.
It will promote technological modernisation and sustainability across the entire value chain, fostering efficient, safe and high-quality production.
Priority areas include:
This mission aims to promote new industrialised construction models to increase affordable housing supply, reduce construction times and improve sector sustainability.
It seeks scalable solutions integrating design, manufacturing and execution, strengthening industrial capacity and improving construction efficiency.
Priority areas include:
A specific line of Dual Missions will also be launched, focused on security and defence projects with a higher budget allocation.
This programme aims to strengthen national strategic autonomy by promoting technologies with both civilian and military applications.
