CDTI Innovación has published the provisional report on the results of Spanish participation in the awarded calls during the first four years of Horizon Europe, the current European Union Framework Programme for Research and Innovation for 2021–2027.

Between 2021 and 2024, Spanish entities secured grants totaling €4,507.6 million to carry out 4,813 research and innovation activities, which will translate into investments exceeding €5.3 billion in R&D&I in Spain.

These results place Spain third among EU countries in terms of grants received, with a return rate of 11.4% relative to the total allocated to the EU-27, behind only Germany and France. Furthermore, Spain far exceeds the results achieved in previous Framework Programme editions and surpasses the country’s contribution to the EU budget.

Spanish participation includes a total of 11,227 participations, consolidating the country as second in terms of number of participations. Additionally, Spain ranks first in leading collaborative research and innovation projects funded by Horizon Europe, representing 15.8% of the total and highlighting the prominent role of Spanish entities in the European context.

CDTI Innovación promotes and coordinates Spanish participation in Horizon Europe across all types of entities, both public and private, acting as representative in Programme Committees and as National Contact Point across the various pillars and clusters of the Programme, thereby contributing to the achievement of the objectives established at each stage.
