Samaipata, a pan-European venture capital fund investing in early-stage technology companies, announces the appointment of Carolina Martínez-Caro as senior advisor. Carolina brings over 30 years of experience in the financial sector to support the fund’s new phase of growth.

She served as CEO of one of the leading Swiss banks, Julius Baer, in Iberia for nearly a decade. In this role, she led the bank’s launch in Spain and Portugal, consolidating its market presence and establishing it as a benchmark in the region.

Previously, she spent more than two decades at Merrill Lynch, where she became a prominent figure in private banking, recognized for her ability to generate business and guide clients with complex needs in long-term strategic decisions.

In recent years, Carolina has built a professional portfolio combining corporate governance and institutional engagement across various sectors. She currently serves as an independent board member of Unicaja Banco, Clínica Baviera, and LH Paragon, as well as vice president of the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC) in Madrid and advisor to major family groups.

At Samaipata, Carolina will help define the firm’s strategy during this expansion phase and strengthen relationships with key organizations, institutions, and corporations both in Spain and internationally.

“Carolina brings a rare combination of international executive experience, deep market knowledge in asset management, and extensive expertise in corporate governance. Her appointment will help strengthen and elevate Samaipata’s next stage of development,” says José del Barrio, founding partner of Samaipata.

“What attracts me most to Samaipata is its investment discipline, strategic ambition, and the strength of the platform it is building to drive its founders’ success. I am confident I can help strengthen the connection between the venture capital ecosystem and more traditional corporations and investors, fostering greater convergence and creating new opportunities for collaboration,” says Carolina Martínez-Caro.
