Gestcompost Group, backed by investment manager Suma Capital, has completed the acquisition of Biosecuritas, a company specialized in the collection and management of animal by-products. This integration enhances the Group’s capabilities in traceability, biosecurity, and operational efficiency, adding to its organic and inorganic growth strategy and consolidating its leadership position in Spain in the recovery of animal by-products as well as in the production of biomethane.

The transaction is part of Gestcompost’s expansion plan as a national biomethane production platform, following the entry of leading international investors through a €250 million continuation fund managed by Suma Capital. This roadmap combines inorganic growth through strategic acquisitions that strengthen efficiency, innovation, and the group’s environmental impact with organic growth through the construction and operation of biomethane plants alongside industrial partners and developers. The financial terms of the transaction have not been disclosed.

Founded by veterinarian Dr. Quintiliano Pérez Bonilla, a member of the Royal Academy of Veterinary Sciences and former Director General of Livestock at the Ministry, Biosecuritas has developed pioneering technology for the safe collection of livestock mortalities using sealed containers with natural hydrolysis, in line with European food safety regulations. This system has been adopted by some of Spain’s leading food groups and livestock integrators.

Its integration will expand traceability and efficiency in the animal by-product management chain, while also improving farm biosecurity by reducing livestock losses from pathogen contamination during collection and transport.

“This transaction represents a natural step in our growth strategy. It enables us to vertically integrate, strengthening our value proposition for our clients and consolidating our leadership in the management of organic animal by-products, avoiding landfill disposal and advancing towards a more circular economy”, said Joan Antoni Solans, founder of Gestcompost.

“Biosecuritas was created to enhance biosecurity at source and provide guarantees to the livestock sector. Joining Gestcompost allows us to scale this solution with greater reach and efficiency, closing the loop from safe collection to final valorization”, said Dr. Quintiliano Pérez Bonilla, founder of Biosecuritas.

“At Suma Capital we are proud to support Gestcompost in its growth and decarbonization plan. The integration of Biosecuritas into the group is another step in our goal to turn Gestcompost into the leading platform in Spain for organic by-product recovery and biomethane production, contributing to a more sustainable and circular economy”, stated Antoni Macià, partner at Suma Capital.

Dr. Pérez Bonilla will remain involved with the company during the transition phase, bringing his expertise to the future development of the platform.

With a treatment capacity of 1.2 million tons per year and operations in Aragón, Castilla-La Mancha, and Catalonia, Gestcompost will begin producing biomethane at two of its facilities at the end of 2025, with an annual production of over 130 GWh. Over the next five years, the company expects to surpass 1 TWh of capacity, driven by a portfolio of strategic projects. With this transaction, Gestcompost strengthens its position as a leading biomethane and biosecurity platform in Southern Europe.

The Group is backed by a strong base of international investors committed to sustainability through the continuation fund managed by Suma Capital, classified as Article 9 under SFDR regulation. This €250 million fund ensures the resources needed to continue driving Gestcompost’s growth and consolidation plan.
