Once again, COFIDES will support Grupo Ortiz in the operation and maintenance of the "Transversal del Sisga" road in Colombia. COFIDES, through the Fund for Foreign Investment (FIEX), together with its own resources, will increase its stake in the equity of Concesión Transversal del Sisga (from 24.9% to 49.9%) and the subordinated debt granted for a total amount of €19.5M. Thanks to this financing, COFIDES and Grupo Ortiz will acquire a 50% stake held by a local partner.
The Transversal del Sisga concession is part of Colombia's fourth generation "4G" road concession program. Fully operational at this moment, the 137 km road corridor has provided an alternative to the central connection of the country and benefits the populations of the departments of Cundimarca, Boyacá and Casanare, crossing areas with a population of 5.2 million inhabitants.
COFIDES will keep on backing Grupo Ortiz in this project, after its stake in the company's capital and subordinated debt in 2018. Grupo Ortiz has an extensive experience in Colombia, where it is developing different concessions, four of them (roads, transmission line and hospital) jointly-owned by COFIDES.
This project has an impact on the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), as it has generated more than 8,700 direct jobs.
The CIO of COFIDES, Miguel Ángel Ladero, stated that "it is very important for COFIDES to collaborate with Spanish companies in the implementation of major infrastructures that contribute to improving economic structure and growth." He added that "this project is a good example of an innovative and sustainable infrastructure concept."
Alberto de la Fuente, Concessions director of Grupo Ortiz, points out the importance of their ongoing collaboration with COFIDES in its concession projects in Colombia and emphasizes that the expansion of its participation in the Transversal del Sisga Concession reinforces its commitment to Colombia and the development of its transportation infrastructure.
