CDTI Innovación’s Innvierte SICC invests, together with Swanlaab Innvierte Agrifood Tech, in MOA Foodtech, a company redefining the future of ingredients through AI-driven biotechnology

Biotechnology and AI are transforming R&D by accelerating fermentation-based innovation. A strong example in this field is MOA BIOTECH, S.L. (MOA Foodtech) (Navarre), a company that is redefining the agri-food industry by creating sustainable, natural, nutritious, and high value-added foods without the need for arable land.

MOA Foodtech has developed a platform that combines AI and biotechnology to produce high-value ingredients through the upcycling of by-products. Its model integrates a portfolio of proprietary ingredients alongside the development of solutions with strategic partners.

Its patented AI tool, Albatros, enables the selection of the ideal microorganism to ferment each specific by-product, resulting in microbial biomass with exceptional nutritional value, high digestibility, no allergens, and minimal environmental impact.

CDTI Innovación, through Innvierte, has completed an investment in the company alongside Swanlaab Innvierte Agrifood Tech, FCR, contributing €674,000. With this participation, the entity supports companies that are revolutionizing the food sector by offering sustainable ingredients.

Swanlaab Innvierte Agri Food Tech

SWANLAAB INNVIERTE AGRIFOOD TECH, FCRE, managed by SWANLAAB VENTURE FACTORY, SGEIC, S.A. (Swanlaab Venture Factory), is Spain’s first venture capital fund specialized in Agri-Food Tech. It was created with the aim of turning innovation into competitive new products and services, enabling the agri-food sector to meet market demands and address major global and local challenges across primary production, food processing, logistics, distribution, and retail.

Swanlaab Venture Factory is a unique venture capital firm in Spain, with a team boasting over 20 years of investment experience across diverse sectors such as B2B software, agrifood-tech, and search funds. The Swanlaab team includes professionals who have founded and led their own startups, managed renowned VC funds, and supported the launch of more than 200 companies as advisors and consultants, with a clear mission to help Spanish entrepreneurs succeed globally.

Innvierte

Innvierte is an initiative aimed at promoting business innovation by supporting venture capital investment in technology-based or innovative companies. This program is implemented through the closed-end investment company Innvierte Economía Sostenible SICC S.M.E., S.A., which is self-managed and supervised by the National Securities Market Commission, and in which CDTI Innovación is the sole shareholder.

To date, CDTI Innovación has committed €3.4785 billion through Innvierte across 61 investment vehicles and, through its co-investment line, has directly committed €866.1 million to 197 companies.

Innvierte is part of the Spanish Strategy for Science, Technology and Innovation 2021–2027, approved by the Council of Ministers in September 2020. This strategy sets out the objectives, reforms, and measures to be adopted across the entire R&D&I landscape to drive growth and impact, and serves as a cornerstone of the Government’s innovation policy for the coming years.
