Columbus Innvierte Life Sciences Fund V, FCR is a venture capital fund managed by Columbus Venture Partners, focused on investing in companies operating in the life sciences and healthcare sectors. The fund targets technology-based European and U.S. companies across biotechnology, advanced therapies, medical devices, precision medicine, diagnostics, digital health, and artificial intelligence applied to healthcare.
The fund will support both early-stage companies (Series A and B) and more advanced growth rounds, with minimum investments of €2 million. Its objective is to back disruptive projects with the potential to transform the healthcare and pharmaceutical industries while fostering innovation and value creation across the ecosystem.
CDTI Innovación, through its Innvierte initiative, has committed up to €70 million to the fund. This public-private partnership will promote investment in biotechnology companies operating in the life sciences and healthcare sectors, with the ultimate goal of improving people's lives.
Columbus Venture Partners
Founded in 2016 by Javier García Cogorro and Damià Tormo, Columbus Venture Partners is a venture capital management firm specializing in biotechnology investments. The firm invests in innovative therapies, medical technologies, and scientific infrastructure to accelerate the development of new treatments.
Since its inception, Columbus Venture Partners has launched and managed four investment funds, backing a portfolio of 50 companies.
Its mission is to create solutions by building bio-industries designed to address major challenges facing the global healthcare system.
As biotechnology entrepreneurs, the team scales companies from scientific discovery to commercial success. To balance risk and maximize returns, the firm's investment strategy allocates approximately 50% of capital to advanced therapies and 50% to infrastructure development and other enabling industrial technologies that drive progress in healthcare.
Innvierte
Innvierte is an initiative aimed at promoting business innovation by supporting venture capital investment in technology-based and innovative companies. The programme is implemented through Innvierte Economía Sostenible SICC S.M.E., S.A., a self-managed closed-ended investment company regulated by the Spanish National Securities Market Commission (CNMV), of which CDTI Innovación is the sole shareholder.
To date, CDTI Innovación, through Innvierte, has committed €3.67 billion across 64 investment vehicles. Through its co-investment programme, it has also committed €889.9 million directly to 197 companies.
Innvierte forms part of the Spanish Science, Technology and Innovation Strategy 2021–2027, approved by the Council of Ministers in September 2020. The Strategy establishes the objectives, reforms and measures required across Spain's R&D&I ecosystem to strengthen its growth and impact, and serves as one of the cornerstones of the Spanish Government's innovation policy for the coming years.
CDTI Innovación
The Centre for the Development of Technology and Innovation (CDTI E.P.E.) is the innovation agency of Spain's Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities. Its mission is to promote technological innovation within the business sector by helping Spanish companies transform scientific and technological knowledge into globally competitive, sustainable and inclusive growth.
In 2025, under its 2024–2027 Strategic Plan, CDTI provided €2.423 billion in support to Spanish companies and startups.
