The Memorandum of Understanding, signed in the context of Science for Industry (S4i), will facilitate collaboration opportunities for co-investments, joint calls, and a shared agenda to drive deep tech with the ambition of European leadership.

The Centre for the Development of Technology and Innovation (CDTI Innovación), the Spanish state innovation agency under the Ministry of Science, Innovation, and Universities, and the German federal agency for disruptive innovation SPRIND have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Madrid to establish a stable framework for collaboration in deep tech and frontier innovation. The signing took place during Science for Industry (S4i), Europe’s leading event on knowledge transfer and disruptive technologies, which connects science, business, and investment in high-impact sectors, where CDTI Innovación plays an active role.

The MoU was signed by José Moisés Martín Carretero, Director General of CDTI Innovación, and Barbara Diehl, Director of Strategic Partnerships at SPRIND, in the presence of Olav Carlsen, Director of Innovation at SPRIND, and Elisa Rivera, Director General of Planning, Coordination, and Knowledge Transfer at the Ministry of Science, Innovation, and Universities. The agreement aligns with the shared vision of accelerating Europe’s ability to turn excellent science into real companies and solutions with speed, scale, and global competitiveness. From this perspective, the CDTI-SPRIND collaboration serves as an umbrella to connect ecosystems, exchange best practices, and lay the groundwork for specific programs that foster the creation of European technology champions.

The agreement is based on the shared understanding that frontier innovation—which opens new markets and redefines sectors—requires instruments that combine financing, guidance, and challenge-driven support, without compromising rigor in selection. Therefore, the MoU focuses on concrete initiatives, experience sharing, and establishing the foundation for a long-term European alliance, explicitly aiming to pave the way toward a future European network supporting disruptive innovation.

The memorandum includes a wide range of cooperation areas, from co-investment in companies with disruptive innovations to joint funding opportunities linked to challenge calls, as well as training activities, events, and bilateral or European workshops designed to inspire the ecosystem.

Within the framework of its 2024-2027 Strategic Plan, this collaboration aligns with CDTI Innovación’s ongoing role in promoting business innovation and technology transfer, specifically including public investment capitalization through its Innvierte program, which supports investment in technology-driven and innovative companies.
