The Department of Business, Employment and Social Economy, through the Development Institute of the Region of Murcia (Info), together with the European Center for Business and Innovation of Murcia (Ceeim) and the School of Industrial Organization (EOI), developed in the first half of the year an acceleration program for 24 startups that “will drive the technological leap in strategic sectors of the regional economy,” according to Joaquín Gómez, Director of Info.

The program has trained entrepreneurs with innovative product or service proposals that use advanced technologies. In just five months, participants developed their business models, becoming startups with the potential to grow and consolidate. Their products and services are aimed at implementation in small and medium-sized enterprises, as well as in leading companies across strategic sectors.

Gómez highlighted that “every day we see how startups, through their ability to scale innovative solutions, help transform the regional economic fabric.” “They connect universities, businesses, and public administration, they also create qualified jobs that help retain talent in the Region, and they place us on the global innovation map, becoming engines of transformation for the regional economy thanks to the innovation, competitiveness, sustainability, and knowledge they bring,” he added.

Specifically, the startups operate in areas related to biotechnology, health, agri-food, mobility, energy and ecological transition, banking and finance, and telecommunications, among other sectors. These economic activities fall within the areas of promotion and support for entrepreneurship in the Region of Murcia.

To take part in the training program, which also offered personalized acceleration and connections with the business network, the companies had to be newly created or less than five years old, or up to seven years in the case of strategic sectors such as biotechnology, energy, or industry. In the Region of Murcia, Ceeim collaborated as the accelerating entity.
