The Basque Government has launched the eleventh call of its open innovation platform, BIND, aimed at corporations and SMEs in the Basque Country interested in collaborating with disruptive startups from around the world. The objective of this platform is to enhance the competitiveness of the Basque business ecosystem through the development of innovation projects and the application of new technologies capable of improving processes, increasing energy efficiency, and reducing industrial emissions. The application period will remain open until July 2.

More than 100 leading companies currently participate in the BIND platform, spanning sectors such as industry, energy, machine tools, and automotive. These include corporations such as Mercedes-Benz, ITP Aero, Iberdrola, Betsaide, Ormazabal, Tubacex, Talgo, Sidenor, and Eroski, as well as SMEs such as Artiach, Eralki, Loire Gestamp, Loramendi, and Vicrila, among others.

BIND celebrates ten successful editions thanks to its benchmark public-private collaboration model. This initiative of the Basque Government, created by the Department of Industry, Energy Transition and Sustainability through the Spri Group, has positioned the Basque Country as an international reference in innovation and entrepreneurship.

A successful model adapted to all types of needs

The BIND platform facilitates connections between startups and established companies in the Basque Country through the Venture Client model. In this way, it has become a strategic forum for supporting the adoption of disruptive technologies among leading corporations and SMEs in an agile and tailored manner. The resulting open innovation projects enhance the competitiveness, efficiency, and sustainability of the Basque industrial ecosystem.

This is how Javier Ceballos, IT Director at Bellota, a company dedicated to the production of tools and products for the construction, agriculture, industry, and gardening sectors, explains it: “BIND is a unique platform to stay up to date with technological trends and evaluate new tools with external support. The BIND network facilitates market validation and the implementation of open innovation projects, which allows us to improve our competitiveness.”

Working with startups that develop new technologies also enables companies to address their challenges in a more tailored way. “Working with a startup helped us solve a concern we had for a long time,” says José Luis Baena, Technical Director at Eralki Engineering, an SME specializing in the design and manufacturing of vibrating machinery. “BIND opens the door to hearing what startups are doing in different challenge areas,” he explains.
