The Seville-based custom-made furniture startup Tutrocito was crowned winner of the BME Award for Best Scaleup at Al Andalus Innovation Venture 2025, which over two days brought together in Seville a significant representation of Spain’s entrepreneurial ecosystem. A successful fourth edition that welcomed 2,800 attendees, including more than 800 startups and nearly two hundred investors.

The award was presented by Francisco Javier González Navarro, Director General for Entrepreneurship Development and Continuing Education of the Regional Government of Andalusia, and Jesús González Nieto-Márquez of BME Growth. Tutrocito was distinguished as the most investable scaleup among the 24 companies showcased in this edition, thanks to its ability to scale, generate impact, and lead business innovation. With this recognition, founders Darius Molnar, Jorge Geniz, and María Coronel gain access to an exclusive program designed by Bolsas y Mercados Españoles focused on expansion into the stock market.

This year’s edition significantly reinforced its content offering, betting on a broader format of specialized themes that allowed for deeper exploration of today’s major challenges and opportunities, such as generative AI, green hydrogen, the role of women in the ecosystem, and entrepreneurs’ mental health. To this end, the event’s three stages featured prominent speakers and thought leaders from each sector.

Among them were leading investment funds, major corporations, and standout success stories such as Antonio Catalán, founder of NH and AC Hotels; and more recent cases such as Yago Arbeloa (MIO Group), Pablo Fernández (Clidrive), and Hugo Arévalo (ThePowerMBA). They headlined some of the most attended roundtables, including one on mental health in which Javier Arroyo (Smartick) concluded that entrepreneurs “must stay true to their purpose and keep their cortisol levels under control.” Investor perspectives were also generally optimistic, with notable presences such as Laura González-Estéfani (TheVentureCity), Stephan de Moraes (Indico Capital), Pedro Ribeiro (Armilar), and Aquilino Peña (Kibo Ventures), who affirmed: “In 2026 we will continue to see major exits.” A comprehensive snapshot of the Spanish tech ecosystem was further enriched by José Torrego, founder of El Referente, Spain’s leading outlet on entrepreneurs and startups, who shared insights from its annual report.

This year’s big themes: AI and green hydrogen

One of the main highlights of the fourth edition of Al Andalus Innovation Venture was undoubtedly green hydrogen, a field being embraced by numerous startups and large companies. Considered the energy of the future, it featured a compelling program led by top industry voices, including Iker Marcaide (Zubi Group and Matteco), with his ambition to bring the best decarbonization solutions from the lab to market; Eugenio Trillo (Lean Hydrogen), Brais Armiño (AtlantHy), and Francisco Montalbán (Andalusian Hydrogen Cluster), who sees hydrogen as “the best way to democratize energy.” Inerco and Enagás also used their presence in Seville to showcase use cases of hydrogen in key sectors such as industry and mobility.

Artificial Intelligence was another central focus of the event’s second day, showcasing the latest innovations such as Consumer Market Digital Twins presented by Oscar Cordón (University of Granada), and AI Gigafactories presented by Javier Bau (Atos Iberia) as Europe’s digital future. Practical use cases included Renaiss.ai’s solutions enabling thousands of employees to safely and securely use AI models like GPT, Claude, or Gemini, and Guadaltel’s tools to turn bureaucracy into efficiency by reducing processing times by 80%.

Women’s entrepreneurship also had a strong presence at Al Andalus Innovation Venture, supported institutionally by Cámaras Andalucía and the Regional Government of Andalusia. The program, designed to discuss the role of women in the ecosystem, featured leading speakers such as Isabel Pérez Segura (Chibika Capital), Estefanía Ferrer (Lico Cosmetics), Patricia López (MyHixel), and Inés Herrero (BioMixing), along with notable figures such as María del Mar Fuentes, president of the Andalusian Entrepreneurial Ecosystem Observatory.

Also noteworthy were two women leading innovative projects: the European startup incubator for the space sector, to be developed at the Seville Emprendedora hub, presented by Gracia Catalina (ESA BIC Andalucía), and Spain’s participation in the EU Chip Design Platform explained by Macarena Martínez (Institute of Microelectronics of Seville). Two high-potential projects led from Seville, joined by initiatives such as the new center for aerial robotics and urban air mobility with drones, presented by Guillermo Heredia, Professor of Systems and Automation Engineering at the University of Seville; and the latest healthtech advances on molecular mechanisms to improve tissue regeneration in the heart, brain, and eyes, revealed by Ozren Bogdanovic, principal investigator at the Andalusian Center for Developmental Biology.
