EQA Spain, a leading company in R&D&I project certification, management systems, and ESG standards, enters a new strategic phase following the acquisition of a majority stake—slightly under 70%—by Peninsula Capital Advisors. Current executives, including founder and CEO Gustaf Horn af Aminne and General Manager Ignacio Martínez, will retain a minority stake above 30% and continue managing the company.
The transaction, coordinated by KPMG as financial advisor and valued between €50 and €100 million, was supported by KPMG’s Deal Advisory and Legal teams, which carried out a comprehensive vendor due diligence covering legal, tax, labor, and ESG matters. Houlihan Lokey acted as financial advisor to Peninsula Capital, while legal matters were handled by Gómez-Acebo & Pombo and Linklaters for the sellers and buyers, respectively.
EQA conducts over 11,000 audits annually, works with approximately 80% of Ibex 35 companies, and employs more than 320 people. Its current EBITDA is around €7 million, and its client portfolio exceeds 10,000. The company specializes in certifying R&D&I tax deductions and other associated incentives, providing businesses with significant fiscal savings of 12% to 42% on R&D&I investments, compatible with additional Social Security reductions and other grants.
EQA’s new business plan aims to consolidate its leadership in Spain and expand internationally, with a focus on markets such as Italy and France. The company also operates in quality management systems, ESG standards, and serves as a collaborating urban planning entity in Madrid, Galicia, and the Valencian Community.
This transaction strengthens EQA’s position in a strategic market, while Peninsula Capital continues to grow its portfolio, which includes companies such as Aernnova, Salto Systems, HLC Distribution, and WM Clinics (Dorsia).
