The Mobile World Capital Barcelona Foundation (MWCapital) and Openchip have signed a memorandum of understanding under which they commit to collaborating on projects aimed at boosting areas such as technology transfer, technology validation, industrial innovation and digital talent.

Through this agreement, the MWCapital Foundation and the company specialising in chip and system design for AI and supercomputing applications establish a commitment to explore joint opportunities and projects to foster the development of the technology ecosystem, including participation in Talent Arena 2026, among other initiatives.

According to MWCapital CEO Francesc Fajula, the agreement with Openchip “opens up opportunities to further develop the Foundation’s projects alongside a leading company in our environment that is working on a key technology for the future of the ecosystem and for European technological sovereignty, such as microchip development”.

For his part, Cesc Guim, CEO of Openchip, stated: “This alliance allows us to align our passion and expertise in semiconductor technologies with the goal of strengthening European digital sovereignty. It is about creating the ideal ecosystem in which the best digital talent can develop the AI and supercomputing infrastructures of Europe’s future, leading this path from a technological capital such as Barcelona.”

Technology transfer in collaboration with Openchip

The aim of this collaboration is to foster high-impact entrepreneurship, promote technology transfer and contribute to strengthening the deep tech ecosystem in Europe. One of the main areas of joint work between the two organisations will be technology transfer. Beyond participation in Talent Arena 2026, Openchip will support MWCapital’s technology transfer programme, The Collider, by validating technologies and use cases related to semiconductors, chips or artificial intelligence infrastructures.

Openchip may also take part in pilot programmes led by MWCapital, in collaboration with other organisations, involving the use or evaluation of Openchip technologies.

Through this agreement, and within the scope of expertise of both parties, the organisations will explore the possibility of jointly applying for public funding initiatives, both for national and international projects.

The agreement also includes participation in activities organised by each entity. In this regard, Openchip will be part of the Talent Arena 2026 programme and will contribute to the curation of content for sessions related to microprocessors, artificial intelligence systems and other related technologies.
