The videogame incubation program GameBCN reaches its ninth edition stronger than ever. The 184 projects registered from all continents even surpasses the record of its eighth edition with 174 projects presented. This year, 58% of the proposals come from Europe and 19% from Latin America.

NEW PARTNERS

GameBCN 2024 starts with important news: the incorporation of the Japanese virtual reality platform Cluster, the publishers Ubisoft Barcelona,Anchor Point and the studio IO Interactive. These three will join Socialpoint, Marvelous and Gameloft as partners of the incubator.

The GameBCN initiative, founded by Simón Lee, former executive of Digital Legends (acquired by the U.S. Activision) and also founder of the Peninsula consulting firm, has the collaboration of the Generalitat de Catalunya, the Barcelona City Council and the innovation consulting firm Peninsula.

The incubation program, which aims to boost the Catalan video game ecosystem, will provide training and mentoring to facilitate the production of video games and maximize business opportunities for three Catalan teams, one from Madrid, one from Chile and one from Brazil, with video games for mobile, PC and console.

The six teams participating in the program are Magic Rain Studios with the game “LUA”, Juegos Asados with “Hellfire Poncho”, Dust Games with “Roombattle”, Half Sunk Games with “The Dream Observatory”, Notbug Studio with “Pranimals” and Kreativitas Studio with the game “Mahjong Monster Arena”.

All of them will receive 120 hours of training in production, marketing and business, as well as personalized mentoring from experts from Gameloft, Socialpoint, Ubisoft, Anchor Point, THQ Nordic and Appnormals, among other studios. In addition, they will also enjoy monthly events and talks open to the public with industry experts, generating a very favorable climate of exchange for the sector, and in August they will present their projects at Gamescom, the most important fair of the sector in Europe.

GameBCN continues its consolidation process and, in addition to the ninth edition of the program, the third edition of the GameGi incubation program in Girona and the start in April of the fourth edition of the Japanese program run by Marvelous have been confirmed. In addition to the incubation programs, there are also pre-incubation, acceleration and mentoring programs.

GameBCN’s headquarters in Palo Alto in Barcelona will host meetings and talks open to the entire community, working together with the various players in the video game sector to weave a network of collaboration and continue helping to position the city as a benchmark for the gaming industry in southern Europe.
