Estabanell, a leading company in the energy and telecommunications sectors headquartered in Granollers, has signed a €22 million financing agreement with Triodos Bank and the Institut Català de Finances (ICF) to support the rollout of 62.8 MWp of new photovoltaic capacity, primarily in Catalonia.

The transaction is structured as a project finance facility, highlighting the technical, economic, and environmental quality of the projects promoted by Estabanell. It consists of a syndicated loan totaling €22 million in debt, with Triodos Bank contributing €15 million and ICF €7 million, with Triodos acting as the facility agent. The financing is also channeled through the ICF Ecoverda loan, a public development banking line in Catalonia aimed at projects in renewable energy, circular economy, energy efficiency, self-consumption, and sustainable mobility.

This agreement represents a significant boost to the group’s growth strategy, enabling progress in the construction of photovoltaic parks under Estabanell’s distributed generation model.

The financed assets correspond to photovoltaic generation facilities and are aligned with the group’s objective of deploying new renewable capacity with direct territorial impact. On the one hand, this new capacity will allow Estabanell to strengthen one of its strategic pillars—renewable energy generation—by promoting a cleaner and more sustainable energy system and advancing the decarbonization of the economy. On the other hand, it will help improve energy pricing for its customer base.

These new renewable generation facilities—most of which will be developed through the group’s engineering subsidiary specializing in photovoltaic generation, Estabanell Innover—are expected to be operational before June 30, 2027.

Currently, Estabanell is the Catalonia-based company with the largest number of renewable projects under development in the region. In this regard, the company is finalizing the construction and grid connection of three solar parks in Vidreres, La Garriga, and Figuerola del Camp, which form part of the same strategic growth axis in renewable generation.

Driving the energy transition

Estabanell’s CEO, Teresa Roig, highlighted that “this financing agreement marks a turning point in our capacity to generate our own renewable energy and allows us to move forward towards a more sustainable energy model, rooted in the territory and focused on ensuring clean and competitive supply for our customers.”

According to Roig, “the trust placed in us by Triodos Bank and ICF reinforces the strength of our model and the rigor with which we approach each project.”

Miguel Ángel Amores, Head of Renewable Energy and Environmental Technologies at Triodos Bank, stated: “This financing reflects how banking can continue to support the energy transition and reduce dependence on fossil fuels through robust structures that combine diversification, stable revenues via long-term PPAs, and full backing from a company with a strong track record in energy such as Estabanell. It is also a great example of supporting the real and local economy, where our customers’ savings—many of them from Catalonia—are transformed into renewable generation plants in the region, with strong environmental integration, promoted by a local energy company and with additional financial support from the Institut Català de Finances.”

Vanessa Servera Planas, CEO of ICF, added: “Sustainability is one of the strategic pillars of public development banking, and ambitious projects such as Estabanell’s contribute to advancing the energy transition of companies and society as a whole, fostering a more sustainable future.”

Among the solar parks expected to come into operation throughout 2027 are those located in Fonollosa, El Catllar, Manlleu, and Moià, as well as other facilities outside Catalonia that form part of the group’s broader renewable development plan.

With this agreement, Estabanell reinforces its role as a key player in the energy transition in Catalonia, aligning business growth, sustainability, and positive local impact.
