Energy Starter, an open innovation program created by EDP to accelerate energy transition on a global scale, chose nine innovative startups that will advance to the Bootcamp of the program, which takes place from April 16 th to 18 th, in Singapore. After a first module dedicated to solutions for the electrical grids of the future, this second phase looks for startups with disruptive ideas that could be applied to renewable energy and green hydrogen, strategic areas for the energy sector and for EDP's growth.

The aim is to help achieve the expansion targets for renewables and accelerate their deployment, especially in sectors of activity where decarbonization is more complicated. This area is where EDP, with more than 23,8GW installed and the ambition to double this capacity by 2030, is a global leader. Green hydrogen, a fast-growing technology, is also an area of focus. EDP maintains its strategic goal of investing in projects that will guarantee a further 1.5 GW capacity by 2030.

"It's the first time we've held the bootcamp in Asia. EDP is looking for innovative technologies globally and wants to deepen its presence in more dynamic ecosystems, such as Japan, South Korea and India" adds Tomás Moreno.

To select the best startups, EDP hosted an online pitching event and follow-up meetings, allowing to gather feedback from various business units and innovation teams across the different geographies of the EDP Group. During the Bootcamp, to be held on April 16th and 17th, the chosen startups will have the opportunity to work together with several EDP experts to accelerate the development of pilot projects and businesses. In addition, the startups will have access to potential financial support and the experience and network of EDP Ventures, the EDP's venture capital area.

On the third day, April 18th, EDP will host an Open Day, an event to the global energy and innovation ecosystem, which will be an opportunity for interested parties to learn about the results and impact of EDP’s innovation programs and initiatives and to discover disruptive technologies and projects that can contribute for a more accelerated and efficient energy transition. It will also be a privileged space for networking and interacting with industry leaders and visionaries who share the passion for a greener and more sustainable future.

The Open Day event will feature speakers such as Sophia Ng, Executive Director at Enterprise Singapore, Justin Lee, Principle at TRIREC, Lawrence Wu, Chief Financial Officer at EDP Renewables APAC and Frank Phuan, Business CEO at EDP Renewables APAC. Over the last seven editions of Energy Starter, EDP has selected 192 startups from 27 countries, jointly developing 75 pilot projects, 28 commercial rollouts and 15 venture capital investments that have already begun to reshape the energy landscape – projects that represented a total of €24 million in deals.

  • Windscape AI (United States): Cutting-edge AI and data analytics to provide critical insights to improve wind farm operations.
