CDTI Innovación’s SICC Innvierte invests, together with several co-investors, in Orikine Bio, a company developing a new generation of therapies for autoimmune, inflammatory, and oncological diseases.
Through this investment, CDTI Innovación contributes to the health and well-being of people by supporting the development of therapies aimed at accelerating recovery for patients with autoimmune diseases.
Orikine Bio, a biotech company founded in 2022 as a spin-off of the Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG) in Barcelona, develops therapies capable of “reprogramming” the immune system, similar to how software engineers rewrite faulty code to repair computer systems.
Its proprietary Foldikine™ platform designs bispecific cytokines, molecules that deliver precise, targeted instructions to immune cells with high efficacy and safety. By reprogramming these cells, the platform restores proper immune function, offering innovative solutions for conditions such as autoimmune diseases and chronic inflammation.
The Orikine Bio team consists of leading experts in biotechnology, immunology, protein engineering, and business development. Their primary goal is to translate cutting-edge research into therapies that can “rewrite” the future of medicine by correcting immune system errors at their root
Investment Details
Through Innvierte, CDTI Innovación has closed an investment round in Orikine Bio alongside Sabadell Asabys Health Innovation Investments II, FCR, Sabadell Asabys Health Innovation Investments 2B, SCR SA, and AFB Seed Fund II, with a total investment of €2.7 million.
This participation enables CDTI Innovación to advance the development of products that improve patient recovery and overall well-being.
Co-investors
Asabys Partners is a venture capital firm specializing in the healthcare sector, founded in 2018 by Josep Ll. Sanfeliu and Clara Campàs, with participation from Alantra and backing from Banc Sabadell as anchor investor. Asabys invests in highly innovative and disruptive companies addressing unmet medical needs in the biopharma and health technology verticals. The firm’s investment in Orikine Bio comes from its vehicles Sabadell Asabys Health Innovation Investments II, FCR and Sabadell Asabys Health Innovation Investments 2B, SCR SA.
AdBio Partners manages AFB Seed Fund II, a European venture capital fund headquartered in Paris with offices in Barcelona. The fund invests in highly innovative projects, combining extensive experience in building startups with early-stage investment expertise, providing strong business support to drive growth. Founded in 2016, AdBio Partners has completed 28 European investments through two seed funds, and these companies have raised more than €1 billion in additional capital from syndicates and international strategic funds.
Innvierte
Innvierte is an initiative aimed at promoting business innovation by supporting venture capital investment in technology-based or innovative companies. The program is implemented through Innvierte Economía Sostenible SICC S.M.E., S.A., a self-managed closed-end collective investment company supervised by the Spanish National Securities Market Commission (CNMV), with CDTI Innovación as its sole shareholder.
To date, CDTI Innovación has committed €2,885.8 million through Innvierte across 54 investment vehicles, and directly invested €833.6 million in 197 companies through its co-investment line.
Innvierte is part of the Spanish Strategy for Science, Technology, and Innovation 2021-2027, approved by the Council of Ministers in September 2020. The strategy defines objectives, reforms, and measures across R&D&I to drive growth and impact and is one of the pillars supporting government policy in R&D&I for the coming years.
