Etidem, headquartered in Barcelona, has opened a new subsidiary in Saarbrücken, in southwestern Germany. A leader in the personalised textile labels sector, the company has taken this step to strengthen its presence in one of its key markets and respond to growing demand, supported by an investment of €125,000.

For its international expansion project in Germany, Etidem received support from ACCIÓ, the Agency for Business Competitiveness of the Government of Catalonia's Ministry of Business and Labour, through a €47,250 grant under its multi-location support programme.

The new Saarbrücken facility, which will initially employ three people during the peak season, includes its own production line dedicated primarily to textile vinyl, one of the product categories that has experienced the strongest demand growth in recent years. In 2024, the company had already taken its first step into the German market by opening a seasonal facility to meet increased demand during the summer peak period. Following the success of that initiative, Etidem has now decided to establish a permanent subsidiary. This new operation will enable the company to enhance customer proximity, optimise its supply chain and reduce costs, further strengthening its competitive position in the German market.

According to Paloma Álvarez Jariego, Founder and CEO of Etidem, "the establishment of Etidem's first international subsidiary is a natural step in the company's evolution." She added, "After years of growth driven by online sales, we needed a physical presence in one of our key markets to compete more effectively against new entrants in the industry."

Strengthening Etidem's international expansion

The opening of the new subsidiary marks another milestone in Etidem's international expansion strategy, which began in 2014 when the company started selling its products through Amazon. This enabled Etidem to distribute its products across numerous international markets, including several European countries, the United States, Canada and Australia.

With the support of its new German subsidiary, the company expects the German market to increase its contribution to international sales from the current 15% to 25% over the coming years.

Today, Spain remains Etidem's largest market, accounting for 40% of total revenue, while the remaining 60% is generated internationally. Its main international markets are Germany (15%), France (13%), Italy (13%) and the United States (13%).

Founded in 2007 and headquartered in Barcelona, Etidem manufactures personalised textile labels for clothing and school supplies, as well as haberdashery products, patches, knee pads and decorative textile vinyl. The company currently employs 20 people, with headcount increasing to as many as 50 employees during peak season. In 2025, Etidem generated €6 million in revenue.

The Catalan Government's commitment to business internationalisation

The Government of Catalonia has launched a new internationalisation strategy for the 2026–2030 period, aimed at helping Catalan companies adapt to the evolving global trade environment.

The strategy's objectives include maintaining Catalonia's leadership in Spanish exports, enabling 2,000 additional Catalan companies to begin exporting, and increasing the number of Catalan businesses with international subsidiaries to 3,500.

Designed by ACCIÓ, the strategy also includes the public-private Catalunya Exporta programme, which seeks to help 2,000 Catalan companies launch their export activities.
