CDTI Innovación’s Innvierte SICC invests in Ingelia, together with two co-investors, to develop technology capable of processing any biomass waste into a sustainable, high-quality hydrochar
Ingelia S.L. is an SME based in Valencia that has developed a hydrothermal carbonization (HTC) technology capable of processing any type of biomass waste —including wet waste— to produce high-quality hydrochar without generating toxic emissions or residues.
The company holds 17 granted international patents and is a global leader in HTC process development, with four industrial plants and four demonstration-scale facilities currently in operation worldwide. Ingelia has operated its own plant since 2010 and, having completed the technology development phase, is now executing a growth and international expansion plan, which includes the addition of strategic partners to its shareholding.
The hydrochar recovered from waste through Ingelia’s HTC plants replaces fossil-based carbon in industrial processes, reducing CO₂-equivalent emissions and promoting circularity in waste management and industrial sustainability.
CDTI Innovación, through its Innvierte program, has completed an investment round in Ingelia together with REPSOL ENERGY VENTURES, S.A. and EASO VENTURES II, S.C.R., with a total investment of €675,000, bringing the total committed capital to €2,718,000. Through this participation, CDTI Innovación contributes to the valorization of organic waste.
Easo Ventures is a private venture capital firm based in San Sebastián, created with the goal of supporting individuals and companies with clear growth projects by providing investment, advice, and experience. The industrial background of its managers and collaborators makes it an ideal partner for this company.
Innvierte is an initiative aimed at promoting business innovation by supporting venture capital investment in technology-based or innovative companies. The program operates through the closed-end collective investment company Innvierte Economía Sostenible SICC S.M.E., S.A., self-managed and supervised by the Spanish National Securities Market Commission (CNMV), with CDTI Innovación as its sole shareholder.
To date, CDTI Innovación has committed €2.847 billion to 63 investment vehicles that have invested in more than 632 companies, and through its co-investment line, it has directly committed €726 million in 191 companies.
Innvierte is part of the Spanish Strategy for Science, Technology, and Innovation 2021–2027, approved by the Council of Ministers in September 2020. This strategy sets out the objectives, reforms, and measures to be adopted across the R&D&I landscape to boost its growth and impact, and it constitutes one of the main pillars underpinning the Spanish Government’s R&D&I policy design for the coming years.
The Centre for the Development of Technology and Innovation (CDTI E.P.E.) is the innovation agency of the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, dedicated to promoting technological innovation in business. Its mission is to ensure that Spanish companies generate and transform scientific and technical knowledge into globally competitive, sustainable, and inclusive growth.
In 2024, within the framework of a new strategic plan, CDTI provided over €2.3 billion in support to Spanish companies and startups.
