BerriUp is the only startup accelerator from the Basque Country included in the ranking of the top 180 hubs in Europe, compiled annually by the Financial Times, in collaboration with Statista and the FT’s associated publication, Sifted.

Under the title “Europe’s Leading Start-Up Hubs”, the ranking evaluates more than 3,000 European incubators and accelerators. BerriUp ranks first in the Basque Country, fifth in Spain, and 72nd overall.

The accelerator has already been included in this ranking in previous editions and was recently named the best private accelerator in Spain according to Funcas’ annual report. These recognitions reinforce BerriUp’s track record and consolidate its role as one of the key players in the entrepreneurial ecosystem in the Basque Country.

BerriUp’s Project Director, Joy Okuyama, highlighted that “this recognition is the result of the joint efforts of our network of mentors, startups and collaborators, who form the BerriUp ecosystem. It motivates us to continue supporting, call after call, entrepreneurs and organizations in their strategic and operational challenges, backing the development of innovative projects with impact and growth potential.”

The prestigious British media outlet published the ranking in its digital version and, last Thursday, March 5, it was also released in print.

BerriUp enters its second decade

After celebrating its tenth anniversary during 2025, BerriUp begins 2026 entering its second decade, with a strong track record that has helped consolidate its position within the startup ecosystem. During its first 10 years, it has launched 20 of its own calls and 5 external calls in collaboration with public and private entities, invested more than €3.5 million through the Easo Ventures fund, analyzed more than 2,000 projects, delivered over 100 training workshops, and created more than 100 jobs. To make all this possible, BerriUp relies on a network of 40 mentors who support startups by providing high-level strategic and operational guidance from day one to drive their growth and success in today’s environment. Over this period, BerriUp has accelerated 44 companies across different sectors, with a market survival rate of over 50%, a success rate well above the average of companies that survive beyond other acceleration processes.

It also supports corporations in innovation and intrapreneurship programs, implementing structures that foster an open and collaborative culture. In addition, it facilitates connections with the innovation ecosystem to attract talent and generate strategic collaborations, and supports projects by connecting them with investors and companies to facilitate funding and promote innovation.

BerriUp connects individuals who want to lead technology-based projects from the outset with corporations, transforming innovation into market value, while providing support and strategic guidance throughout the entire process.

Currently, BerriUp is running its 21st startup selection and acceleration call, with applications already open until April 26.
