What does a room full of people who aren’t just talking about artificial intelligence—but actually building it—look like? That was AI Day 2025.

On November 27, more than 150 entrepreneurs, CTOs, academics, and AI regulators gathered in Barcelona, brought together by Bcombinator, for an intense day of real-world projects, strategic decisions, and candid debates on some of the most pressing challenges in AI.

Leading voices driving AI innovation

Among the keynote speakers, Erik Brieva—President of Bcombinator and CEO of Dedomena AI—shared lessons learned from founding and selling four companies, emphasizing how AI can become a real competitive advantage when applied wisely.

Albert Cañigueral Bagó (Barcelona Supercomputing Center), Germán Lahera (CTO of Dedomena AI), and Yannet Interian (University of San Francisco) explored how to bridge vision, data, and code in complex, evolving environments.

The event also created space for difficult but necessary conversations: how to scale, regulate, and govern AI. These topics were tackled in panels featuring experts like Joan Mas-Albaigès, Antonio Delgado Rigal, Albert Esplugas, Jordi Navarro, Carlos Solana, Oriol Jaumà Lara, Óscar Alonso, and Vanesa Alarcón-Caparrós, who addressed dilemmas and decisions that can no longer be postponed.

Startups in action: Showcase AI

One of the event’s most compelling moments was the Showcase AI block, where five startups demonstrated how they are applying AI to real-world problems—from healthcare and legaltech to advanced analytics:

Real projects, real metrics—no empty promises. Just traction and purpose.

A forward-looking perspective

The day concluded with a thought-provoking keynote by Esteve Almirall, professor and researcher at ESADE, who challenged attendees to reflect on the next five years of AI development. His critical and provocative take left a lasting impression.

Barcelona, an emerging epicenter for AI

With AI Day 2025, Bcombinator reinforces its commitment to connecting talent, technology, and capital—positioning Barcelona as one of the emerging hubs for artificial intelligence.

And this doesn’t stop here: on January 29, we’re back with a new session, this time to talk about what nobody tells you about building a startup: “5 things about startups that nobody ever tells you.”
