BASQUEVOLT, a European technology company specialised in next-generation solid-state battery technology, has announced the entry of Axon Partners Group into its shareholding. The investment is made through Axon’s ClimateTech Impact investment strategy, supported by Ventures EPM, alongside complementary public funding from CDTI (Centre for the Development of Technology and Innovation) through its SICC Innvierte match-funding scheme.

This transaction will enable BASQUEVOLT to continue advancing its industrial roadmap, strengthening its position within the European advanced battery ecosystem and supporting the development of a competitive and resilient battery value chain in Europe.

BASQUEVOLT’s technology focuses on the development of advanced electrolytes for next-generation batteries, designed to significantly improve energy density, fast-charging capabilities, safety and overall battery performance. The company’s approach is based on solutions that can be integrated into existing industrial manufacturing processes, facilitating scalability, reducing costs and accelerating adoption by industrial cell manufacturers, while lowering barriers to large-scale deployment.

The resources secured through the entry of Axon Partners Group and the support of CDTI-Innvierte will allow BASQUEVOLT to advance its industrial roadmap, including the scale-up of electrolyte production and the strengthening of its manufacturing and validation capabilities. Axon brings strategic value through its experience in investing in technology-driven companies, particularly in deep tech linked to the energy transition, as well as its strong track record in supporting the industrial scaling of innovative projects.

Axon’s participation also reinforces BASQUEVOLT’s strong institutional, technological and industrial ecosystem, supporting the company’s long-term growth strategy as it progresses towards expanding its cell manufacturing capacity and scaling the production of the electrolyte required to reach TRL6.

In parallel, BASQUEVOLT will continue to work closely with European automotive manufacturers and OEMs in advanced applications on the development and validation of solid-state battery technology, building on existing collaborations with three automotive OEMs, to ensure strong alignment with market and industry requirements on its path towards large-scale industrialisation.

`Basquevolt represents the type of deep tech innovation Europe needs to accelerate the energy transition. Its solid-state electrolyte technology combines disruptive performance with industrial scalability, addressing some of the most critical challenges in next-generation energy storage. At Axon, we are excited to support the team as they move from technological validation towards large-scale industrial deployment,´ said Álvaro Pascual, Senior Associate at Axon.

`The entry of Axon Partners and the continued support from CDTI represent a key milestone for BASQUEVOLT at this stage of our development. This transaction enables us to accelerate our industrial roadmap and move forward with greater confidence towards the pre-industrialisation of our technology, backed by partners who share our long-term vision and strategic ambition,´ said Pablo Fernández Santos, CEO of BASQUEVOLT.

A disruptive electrolyte enabling 50% greater range: BASQUEVOLT’s solid-state electrolyte delivers approximately 50% higher energy density than current lithium-ion batteries, enabling electric vehicles to achieve similar increases in range without increasing battery size or weight. The technology also addresses critical safety challenges and is fully compatible with existing cell gigafactories, without requiring significant additional investment in manufacturing processes.

Overall, these advances position BASQUEVOLT’s solid-state battery technology as a high-performance, safer and industrially scalable solution for next-generation energy storage applications across automotive, aviation and other advanced industrial sectors.

Strategic public and private funding, alongside OEM partnerships, driving BASQUEVOLT’s progress: over the years, BASQUEVOLT has secured strong backing through a combination of competitive public and private funding. This includes grants from regional, national and European programmes, such as the European Innovation Council (EIC) Accelerator, as well as sector-specific projects spanning aviation, stationary energy storage and other advanced applications. This combination of public funding, private investment and industrial partnerships has been key to driving BASQUEVOLT’s R&D activities, scaling laboratory breakthroughs to industrial maturity and accelerating the development of key materials such as its solid-state electrolyte.
