Basque Health Cluster and the biopharmaceutical company GSK have formalized a strategic collaboration agreement under which GSK joins the cluster as a Business Partner. The aim is to strengthen collaborative innovation and actively contribute to the transformation of the Basque Country’s health ecosystem.

The alliance is conceived as an open collaboration platform designed to connect the various actors in the healthcare system —industry, care providers, research institutions, public administration, and innovative companies— and to promote joint initiatives that address current and future challenges in the health sector.

Through this agreement, the collaboration between both organizations will leverage complementary capabilities, encourage knowledge exchange, identify collaboration opportunities, and support initiatives with a tangible impact on the healthcare system and society.

A key component of the alliance will be the creation of strategic meeting and reflection spaces aimed at driving health innovation in the Basque Country. Through these initiatives, Basque Health Cluster and GSK aim to anticipate trends, share high-value knowledge, and foster new collaboration dynamics among ecosystem actors.

The alliance will also strengthen the connection between the Basque health industry and broader open innovation networks, encouraging interaction across different profiles, disciplines, and capabilities. This approach will continue to foster a culture of cooperation, shared knowledge creation, and the development of initiatives with meaningful impact on the healthcare system.

“At GSK, we firmly believe in the value of open collaboration as a lever to transform healthcare. Joining Basque Health Cluster allows us to connect capabilities, knowledge, and talent across the Basque health ecosystem and reinforce our commitment to a shared innovation model that delivers real societal impact. This alliance reflects our strategic commitment to the Basque Country as a hub for sustainable, collaborative, and patient-focused health solutions,” said Jorge Pou, Innovation Director at GSK Spain. He added, “Initiatives like Gate2Health exemplify how structured collaboration can accelerate impactful innovation, connecting industry, healthcare systems, and innovative actors.”

Asier Albizu, President of Basque Health Cluster, highlighted: “GSK’s integration as a Business Partner strengthens our ability to activate the Basque health industry and generate high-value collaboration among its actors. At the same time, partnerships with leading international companies consolidate Euskadi’s position as a health innovation hub, attracting knowledge, talent, and initiatives with tangible impact on the healthcare system.”

Through this alliance, Basque Health Cluster continues to expand its network of Business Partners and consolidates its role as a platform for connecting and energizing the Basque health ecosystem, driving initiatives that enhance sector competitiveness and societal wellbeing.
