The Catalan company Tarrago Brands, specialized in the care and maintenance of leather and footwear, has launched a new line of sustainable products focused on a new business area: the maintenance and care of technical fabrics for sports and mountain activities. In an initial phase, the company has started marketing the new product portfolio through online channels, with the aim of also bringing it to physical stores in Catalonia, Spain, and international markets where it is present.

For this project, Tarrago Brands received support from ACCIÓ —the agency for business competitiveness of the Department of Enterprise and Labor— through a €60,000 grant from the growth and strategic change aid line, aimed at companies working on a new business plan or implementing actions defined in a previous plan.

With over 80 years of experience in leather and footwear care, the company identified a business opportunity in the new sustainability trends demanded both by consumers and sector regulations. For this reason, they decided to focus on conceptualizing new formulas that allow them to work even more with natural ingredients, ensuring the same characteristics as other previously used substances, such as perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl compounds (PFAS), mineral oils, or petroleum-derived flammable gases.

According to Tarrago Brands CEO, Sergio Barangé: "We are very aware of the harmful effects of certain chemicals on the environment and human health. That is why, in the new outdoor range, we avoid the use of perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl compounds (PFAS) in our formulas, as these are artificial chemicals that do not naturally break down, meaning they accumulate in ecosystems over time. We are continuously innovating to develop eco-friendly alternatives that offer equal or better performance than traditional formulations. Our research and development team focuses on creating products that harness the power of natural ingredients, providing effective results while minimizing environmental impact."

Thus, this new line, called Tarrago Outdoor Care, is more sustainable, using natural ingredients such as coconut oil, shea butter, rice wax, or macadamia oil, among others. The packaging of these products is also eco-friendly, made from recycled plastic and FSC-certified cardboard.

Currently, Tarrago Brands has already launched 14 products from this new range and expects to expand distribution channels to specialty mountain sports stores and major distributors in the coming months.

Founded in 1940, Tarrago Brands specializes in products for the care and maintenance of leather and footwear, targeting both the general public and professionals. They have their own R&D, formulation, and production teams. The company is present in over 80 countries and exports 70% of its total sales.
