Nineteen additional Galician companies have joined the ViaExterior community, the internationalisation programme run by the Vigo Free Trade Zone Consortium. With the conclusion of its 8th edition, the accelerator has now supported a total of 160 companies in their expansion into international markets.
During the closing ceremony, the State Delegate to the Vigo Free Trade Zone, David Regades, highlighted that ViaExterior has become a key driver of internationalisation for Galician businesses and an essential tool for successfully addressing the challenges of global expansion in strategic sectors.
“ViaExterior is not simply a programme about exporting,” said Regades. “It is a space to learn, collaborate and gain the confidence needed to compete internationally. Our goal is to equip companies with the tools they need to ensure their growth goes hand in hand with a sustainable, inclusive and innovative economy. We firmly believe in the value of this public support, and seeing your progress is our greatest reward.”
In this eighth edition, 19 companies from a wide range of sectors—including biotechnology, agrifood, fashion and accessories, consulting and engineering services, and furniture manufacturing—have benefited from seven months of comprehensive and tailored support. The programme combines practical training, one-to-one mentoring and access to an international network of contacts.
Among the participating companies, three are based in the Vigo area, one in Marín, two in A Coruña, two in Santiago de Compostela, one in Ourense and one in Lugo.
The main objective of the Vigo Free Trade Zone accelerator is to maximise the chances of success for participating projects, thereby strengthening Galicia’s business ecosystem in international markets. The programme supports both companies taking their first steps abroad and more experienced businesses seeking to consolidate or expand their presence in foreign markets.
Throughout the programme, participating companies developed detailed internationalisation plans, addressing key areas such as market selection, adaptation of products and services to international standards, professionalisation of commercial strategies, and strengthening of negotiation capabilities.
Many participants have already defined their market-entry routes through distributors, importers or digital platforms and have begun implementing concrete actions, including signing new commercial agreements, attending international trade fairs, engaging with potential local partners, and improving their digital channels and promotional materials.
The most common target markets identified by participants include European countries such as Germany, France, Italy, Portugal and the United Kingdom, as well as growing international markets including the United States, Mexico, Canada and Morocco.
During the closing event, Rubén García, CEO of GANAIN, shared the company's international growth journey. GANAIN previously participated in MarExterior, a specialised spin-off of ViaExterior aimed at companies operating in the fishing, seafood processing, shipbuilding and auxiliary maritime industries.
