The Catalan startup Neuhera (L’Hospitalet de l’Infant, Baix Camp) has developed an immersive video game for the non-pharmacological treatment of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in children that operates solely through brain activity. The platform combines virtual reality, brainwave sensors, and an artificial intelligence algorithm to adapt the gaming experience according to the user’s cognitive level and emotional state.

To develop this project, Neuhera received support from ACCIÓ, the business growth agency of the Department of Business and Labour, through €120,000 in funding from the Nuclear Transition Fund grant programme.

Using a headset equipped with virtual reality goggles, the device employs multiple sensors to measure brainwaves and continuously adapt the gaming experience. This system creates an environment that improves concentration, reduces stress, and increases motivation. The startup’s first gaming proposal features a dragon that can only fly when the user maintains an optimal attention state. Otherwise, the dragon changes colour, speed, and behaviour according to the user’s neural activity, while an avatar provides verbal feedback.

According to Beatriz Fagundo, co-founder of Neuhera, the video game “is like a gym for the brain, as it trains cognitive abilities and allows the positive effects on attention improvement to be maintained over time.” In this regard, she highlights that “video games can be therapeutic tools beyond entertainment.”

The company is currently in the process of obtaining approval for clinical use of its technology, with plans to enter the market in 2026. At the same time, Neuhera is also working on applying its platform to other verticals beyond clinical use. In this sense, the goal is to offer the technology as a stress treatment solution for corporate environments, as well as for emergency service professionals.

Neuhera, founded in 2025 by Beatriz Fagundo and Dayris Rapado, has already received several recognitions, including its selection for the Emprende InHealth programme promoted by Unlimited Spain and pharmaceutical company Lilly.

Using a virtual reality headset, multiple sensors measure brainwaves and adapt the gaming experience accordingly.
