Grodi, an Almería-based company specialising in autonomous robotics and computer vision for intensive agriculture, has closed a €2.5 million funding round with the participation of Swanlaab Innvierte Agri Food Tech, Axon Desarrollo Andalucía — a vehicle managed by Axon Partners Group Investment, backed by the Junta de Andalucía and the European Investment Bank, and funded under the ERDF framework — and Innvierte, SICC of the CDTI.
Grodi has developed VEGA 11, an autonomous robot designed to operate in Mediterranean greenhouses, capable of navigating independently and providing complete visibility of each plant through an advanced computer vision system. The company's technology combines proprietary hardware, machine learning algorithms and large-scale data analysis, enabling optimised agronomic management, early detection of plant health issues and highly accurate yield forecasting.
All of this information is integrated into the Grodi APP, a digital platform that centralises real-time data and supports safer, more efficient and more sustainable decision-making in the farmer's day-to-day operations.
The company is at a pivotal stage of growth, seeking to consolidate the commercial rollout of VEGA 11 whilst continuing to expand its technology portfolio with new products that offer robust, practical solutions for everyday crop management. Innovation and operational efficiency will remain the guiding principles of its development over the coming months, with the aim of strengthening its market position and accelerating the adoption of advanced technologies in greenhouses both domestically and internationally.
As Ana Molina, CEO of Grodi, highlights: `The sector needs solutions that reduce costs, improve resource efficiency and standardise processes. VEGA is demonstrating that automation and computer vision can radically transform the day-to-day management of crops.´
The entry of Axon Desarrollo Andalucía into Grodi's capital reinforces this growth phase, which is focused on industrialising its technology, expanding its customer base and developing new solutions aligned with the real needs of farmers. In the words of Macarena González, Investment Director at Axon Partners Group in Andalusia: `At Axon Desarrollo Andalucía, we back projects with a differentiated technological foundation and a genuine capacity to transform strategic sectors. Grodi has successfully combined an innovative technological proposition with a solution tailored to the needs of the farmer. With this funding, we will support the development of its business plan and R&D&I roadmap at a critical stage for scaling its market impact.´
Swanlaab, meanwhile, highlights the project's technological robustness and potential for impact. In the words of Xana Belastegui, Partner at Swanlaab Innvierte Agri-Food Tech: `Grodi has succeeded in combining robotics, computer vision and advanced analytics into a robust solution that becomes an essential tool for the farmer. We believe its technology will have a real impact on the productivity, sustainability and competitiveness of the agricultural sector.´
With this round now closed, Grodi enters a new phase focused on consolidating its position in the domestic market and laying the groundwork for its international expansion.
