Stoneweg Group, the alternative investment group specialising in real assets, has appointed Carlos Garcia-Peredo as Head of Credit Solutions as it continues to expand its alternatives platform. With nearly 25 years of investment, structuring and banking experience, Carlos’ immediate focus will be on scaling Stoneweg’s private credit offering, targeting up to €500 million of deployment in the next 12 months. The new initiative is a direct response to borrower and investor demand, with the fast-growing, European mid-market private credit sector continuing to be underserved as more traditional finance providers remain capital constrained.

The strategy will have a mandate to originate and invest in loans and hybrid instruments across the capital structure, targeting €50-250 million ticket sizes, through both programmatic and one-off transactions. While not purely asset focused, the strategy will prioritise deployment in companies and sectors with strong asset collateral, leveraging the broader Stoneweg’s real assets experience.

The initial focus will be on Southern Europe, specifically Spain and Portugal, two of the Eurozone’s strongest performing economies where Stoneweg has a significant market presence and deal flow track record. In line with its wider investment approach, Stoneweg will partner with leading global investment managers, including family offices, UNHWIs and institutions, typically through JV or co-investment structures

Carlos joins Stoneweg from ING where he was most recently Head of Credit for Spain and Portugal, managing an €8 billion+ portfolio spanning real estate, energy, infrastructure, agriculture, asset based leveraged and corporate credit, and an executive member of the EMEA Credit Management team. He brings over 20 years of industry experience having structured and arranged 100+ transactions across the capital structure. Based in Madrid, Carlos will report to Rafael Cerezo, CEO of Stoneweg Alternatives.

Stoneweg continues to diversify its specialised investment offering, driven by disciplined investment principles and market demand. Southern Europe’s private credit market is in a relatively early stage of development, while at the same time, banks continue to retrench. The need for capital in the real economy across Europe presents an opportunity for those with strong origination and structuring capabilities.

Alongside its multiple real estate verticals, Stoneweg manages direct and indirect investment strategies spanning Private Credit, Hedge Fund selection and Venture Capital, as part of the Group’s overall €11billion of assets under management. Within the credit space, Stoneweg has deployed over €800 million in primarily real estate and asset backed lending opportunities since 2016.

Rafael Cerezo, CEO – Stoneweg Alternatives, commented: “Enhancing our private credit vertical to underwrite larger ticket sizes and address an under-banked mid-market is a natural next step as we continue scaling our global alternatives offering, providing innovative solutions and investment capabilities for our capital partners. Carlos is ideally suited to deliver on our ambitions, bringing with him a wealth of experience in building successful structured and principal credit franchises, and extensive relationships with leading private family and sponsor owned businesses in the Iberian region.”

Carlos Garcia-Peredo, Head of Credit Solutions, Stoneweg, added: “Longer-term structural challenges are restricting the supply of capital from the banking sector, which, coupled with ongoing market dislocation, presents a compelling opportunity for our highly disciplined, dynamic multi-sector credit strategy, rooted in local market expertise.”
