SISMOS is a Bilbao-based startup less than a year old that offers a new industrial quality control model powered by machine vision. The company helps minimize manufacturing errors and has already demonstrated significant results: at a meat processing company, its solution — a compact computer device — enabled the recovery of 66% of raw materials that were previously being lost. SISMOS has received support from SPRI Group through its Ekintzaile programme, which backs entrepreneurial projects in the Basque Country.
The company was founded in 2025 by its founder and current CEO, Mario Ernesto Antelo, while he was completing a master's project at Campofrío focused on reducing raw material losses. “They wanted to reduce losses through process automation while keeping the solution in-house, without relying on external providers. I developed a small computer equipped with an artificial intelligence accelerator,” he explains.
The solution proved highly successful, enabling the recovery of approximately 40 tonnes of raw material that would otherwise have been lost. “In half a second, the AI detects the meat contained in each tray, the system removes it from the production line, and an operator returns it to the manufacturing process. Our system can be applied to virtually any industrial use case.”
The project attracted the interest of LIN3S, a Bilbao-based company that provides end-to-end digital solutions and identified strong synergies between the two businesses. As a result, SISMOS was officially established in September 2025, with its registered headquarters in Bilbao.
Despite its short history, the company has already entered sectors including automotive, food production and renewable energy storage batteries. Its solution is delivered through a web-based platform accessible from any computer. “Customers can upload their images and train machine vision models without writing code or having programming knowledge. Our platform automatically labels the images, reducing tasks that traditionally take months to just a few hours.”
SISMOS is currently involved in several projects. One of them, in partnership with a multinational automotive company, focuses on detecting defects in thread machining processes. Another project involves an engine cover manufacturer, where the system identifies imperfections and has helped reduce the number of employees required to perform manual inspections.
The company emphasizes the flexibility and affordability of its solution. “We offer the inspection computer for around €1,800, plus an annual subscription of €2,900 that allows customers to adapt inspections to their evolving needs. Existing quality control systems can cost between €40,000 and €50,000 per project. We can also provide more advanced services through partners such as LIN3S and Integradores Industriales. In addition, companies such as Amazon and Google Cloud support us through cloud credit programmes.”
Antelo describes the technology as a new model for industrial quality control based on machine vision. “We give factories intelligent eyes capable of detecting defects early and preventing losses.”
Research and development is at the core of the business. “R&D represents 100% of our activity, and we are constantly evaluating new technologies. We work with major partners such as JG Automotive in the automotive sector and INTERA in semiconductors, which help us commercialize the product. I am also working alongside my partners at LIN3S and participating in two accelerator programmes in Valencia and Burgos.”
The funding received through SPRI Group’s Ekintzaile programme has been used for technology development, consultancy services, trade fair participation and legal advisory support. “It has helped us tremendously. This year we have also applied for the Fast Track Innobideak programme, another SPRI initiative, to develop software in collaboration with Ikerlan and Vicomtech.”
Looking ahead, the company’s priorities include completing the industrialization process for its computer device, which is expected by June, expanding its current two-person team, and attracting additional customers both in the Basque Country and across Spain. “We have a brilliant solution and now we need more people to know about it.”
SPRI Group offers Basque companies the opportunity to showcase their activities through its communication channels. Companies working in areas such as R&D, digitalization, internationalization, entrepreneurship and innovation can participate through the “Hablamos de ti” initiative.
