The Minister for Digital Transformation and Public Administration, Óscar López, presented on Wednesday to the industry the second phase of the Spain Audiovisual Hub Plan, which has a budget of €1.712 billion. “The Spanish Society for Technological Transformation, SETT, is making more than €1.7 billion available to you so that you can imagine and produce the best possible series and films in Spain,” López announced.

The minister made these remarks during the 5th edition of Iberseries & Platino Industria, a professional and internationally oriented audiovisual event focused on Spanish-language serial content, which is taking place until Friday at Matadero Madrid.

In his speech, the minister highlighted Spain’s fourth place in Europe in film and television series production, as well as its leadership in investment in original European content. He also stressed how employment in the audiovisual sector has grown by 107% over the past five years, and how its historic gender gap is narrowing: in 2024, nearly 30% of Spanish-produced feature films were directed by women. These achievements, he underlined, are partly due to the Spanish Government’s support for the audiovisual sector. “We must call success stories by their name: the Spain Audiovisual Hub Plan, co-designed with the industry and endowed with more than €1.5 billion in its first phase, is now rolling out its second,” López stated.

This initiative, launched in 2021 by the Ministry headed by Óscar López — specifically by the Secretariat of State for Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence — has already mobilized around €1.6 billion from the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan, aimed at boosting the audiovisual sector in Spain.

In this second phase, the Spanish Government has already approved two new investments worth nearly €50 million. These include the Spanish audiovisual fund Culture CAP7, which supports the growth of Spanish SMEs within the industry, and the Spanish investment fund Moby Dick Film Capital, specialized in international film financing.

In this context, the minister once again invited the industry to participate in the open call managed by the Spanish Society for Technological Transformation for new operations. “The Government of Spain has gathered you here today to ensure you are the protagonists of the next chapter of success in contemporary audiovisual production,” López concluded.

María Coronado, Audiovisual Director at SETT, delivered a keynote speech before a full audience titled “SETT: New Tools for Support and Investment”, detailing all the financial instruments that the Spanish Society for Technological Transformation is making available to the audiovisual industry.
