The Spanish Society for Technological Transformation (SETT) , attached to the Ministry for Digital Transformation and Public Function , has formalized an agreement with the Spanish company Heuristik to invest more than half a million euros in the development of its technology aimed at the medical sector , which combines artificial intelligence and fingerprint biometrics to improve patient identification .

With this contribution of over €540,000 , the Spanish Government continues its commitment to implementing advanced technologies and digitalization in the healthcare sector to improve its efficiency. Heuristik presents an easy-to-adopt system with low deployment costs that addresses a common problem in the healthcare industry, increasing its potential for rapid scalability.

This startup offers a cloud-based AI platform for identifying and managing patients , enabling healthcare providers to uniquely identify patients throughout the entire process using their fingerprints and obtain key real-time metrics to prevent bottlenecks and reduce the workload for healthcare staff . When registered on the platform, the fingerprint is linked to the patient's medical record without the system collecting personal data such as name, ID number, or medical history.

Its main innovation lies in its ability to accurately identify fingerprints even in challenging conditions (stained, injured, bloody, etc.). Combined with its rapid search capability, which compares a fingerprint to millions of samples in its database in just three seconds, Heuristik positions itself as an ideal alternative to other biometric options, which may require their own hardware, or traditional hospital methods such as wristbands or cards.

It can generate a 90% cost reduction compared to using wristbands, as well as prevent fraud or duplicate medical records, and optimize staff time. Furthermore, the solution is energy-efficient and has zero emissions.

The contribution from SETT, along with private investors, allows us to reach 1.4 million to finance the next stage of development of the project in 2026 : the evolution from an AI to a neural network to reduce computational costs by 80% and the hiring of the team for the expansion of the company.

Since its inception in 2020, Heuristik has implemented its program in relevant medical environments (Spain, Portugal and Poland), participated in the world's largest health accelerators (MIT, NVIDIA, GE Healthcare) and received international awards.

SETT is carrying out this operation, under its public-private partnership model, through the Next Tech facility , with funds from the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (Next Generation EU Funds), which aims to boost financing for startups and scale-ups in the technology sector. In addition, SETT manages two other facilities to strengthen the technology business ecosystem: PERTE Chip , dedicated to microelectronics and semiconductors, and Spain Audiovisual Hub , which promotes the digitalization of the audiovisual sector.
