Santander provided €3.8 billion in financing to Spain's agrifood sector during the first half of 2026, representing a 28% increase compared with the same period last year. With this performance, the bank further strengthens its support for one of the key drivers of the Spanish economy, as the sector undergoes a profound transformation to enhance its competitiveness in an environment shaped by innovation, changing consumer habits and environmental challenges.

Agrifood companies are accelerating their investment plans to meet the demands of increasingly discerning consumers, who are seeking higher-quality, healthier and more sustainable products with greater traceability and tailored to new lifestyles. This shift is driving investment in the modernisation of production facilities, process automation, value chain digitalisation, the adoption of artificial intelligence and precision farming technologies, as well as the development of new products and solutions that deliver greater added value.

At the same time, the sector continues to strengthen its export capacity and expand its presence in international markets, creating new financing needs to support productive investments, increase industrial capacity, optimise logistics and improve the energy efficiency of both farms and food processing facilities.

Against this backdrop, financing for the acquisition and conversion of agricultural holdings into high-value crops—such as olive groves, almond orchards, pistachio plantations, kiwi orchards and avocado farms—together with seasonal working capital loans, operating finance, investment loans and international trade finance solutions, are among the products most in demand by Santander's customers.

Santander's commitment to the agrifood sector goes beyond financing. The bank supports farmers, livestock producers, cooperatives, agribusinesses and food industry companies with specialised solutions designed to foster growth, enhance competitiveness and accelerate the transition towards more digital, efficient and sustainable business models.

This commitment is reinforced by a network of specialised Agribusiness Banking branches, whose dedicated teams provide tailored advice on financing, investment, international expansion and business transformation, offering solutions adapted to each customer's specific needs.

Through this strategy, Santander is helping to strengthen a more innovative, competitive and resilient agrifood sector, better equipped to address the challenges arising from evolving markets, climate change and shifting consumer preferences.
