Fundación Banco Santander (FBS), the institution through which Banco Santander channels its cultural and social sponsorship initiatives, has appointed Roberto Centeno, President and Co-founder of the business group Atitlan, as a new trustee. With this appointment, the Foundation’s Board of Trustees expands from ten to fourteen members, reinforcing its commitment to culture, education, and social action.

Centeno, who holds a degree in Economics and Political Science from Brown University (USA), founded Atitlan in 2005 with Aritza Rodero after a career in the financial sector in London, working for Goldman Sachs and Merrill Lynch. Under his leadership, Atitlan has become a diversified group with assets under management exceeding €1.5 billion, spanning sectors such as real estate, agribusiness, and industry. In 2024, the group achieved consolidated revenues of €301.4 million, a 27% increase over the previous year, with real estate representing 31% of its assets and agribusiness 28%.

Part of the group’s investment in the agribusiness sector is channeled through Atgro, a specialized investment vehicle created in partnership with Banco Santander, which has mobilized €500 million in funds with the participation of other investors.

Fundación Banco Santander focuses its work on three main areas: culture, education, and social action. The Foundation is led by Rodrigo Echenique as President of the Board of Trustees. Trustee positions are honorary, held for one-year terms and renewable indefinitely, in accordance with the Foundation’s governance code. The Board meets at least three times a year to set strategic criteria, approve activities, and manage the annual budget provided by Banco Santander.

With his appointment, Roberto Centeno expands his commitment to social impact initiatives, which Atitlan already carries out in collaboration with foundations linked to education and development cooperation. Headquartered in Valencia, the group has established itself as one of the most active in the Iberian Peninsula in responsible business investment and long-term value creation.

Atitlan’s corporate values include excellence, nonconformity, commitment, and flexibility, applied in building sustainable businesses and collaborating with strategic partners. Currently, the group employs over 10,000 people, has invested more than €2.2 billion since 2005, and maintains a consolidated EBITDA of €24 million.

Through this new role, Roberto Centeno strengthens his position as a leading figure in promoting responsible business growth projects, aligning Atitlan’s vision with the social and cultural sponsorship objectives of Fundación Banco Santander.
