The startup NNEAT, a spin-off of Versia, a leading digital transformation and technology innovation company based in the Basque Country and currently expanding, has been created to address a clear need in cybersecurity: the invisibility of emerging threats and exposure to risk. The greatest risk is not always the cyberattack itself, but the lack of visibility and understanding of an organization’s security posture.
Companies have long been investing in cybersecurity, protection, audits, and regulatory compliance. However, when new threats arise in unfamiliar scenarios—such as the rise of artificial intelligence—organizations often do not know whether they are prepared to face them or the level of risk they are exposed to.
In response, NNEAT brings visibility to this uncertainty. The company moves from prevention to anticipation through its AI-native platform. Its solution connects external threat intelligence, mapping against MITRE ATT&CK, and automated analysis of company security configurations and controls. In doing so, it can identify which active threats are relevant based on an organization’s sector and location, measure actual exposure levels, generate a dynamic risk score, and prioritize remediation actions to have a direct impact on cybersecurity strategy.
Founded less than a year ago by cybersecurity entrepreneur Dan Brett, recognized in the international cybersecurity and tech innovation ecosystem for co-founding CounterCraft and his experience in leading companies such as S21sec (now Thales), NNEAT has already closed an €800,000 seed round. The funding round was led by Easo Ventures, with participation from Basque Fondo, Seed Capital Bizkaia, and BBK Fundazioa.
For 2026, NNEAT aims to accelerate the development and European expansion of its platform, targeting markets such as the UK and Germany. The company will also be present at key international events such as Infosec London, ITSA Nuremberg, and RSAC USA.
Making the invisible visible
NNEAT’s platform translates scattered technical signals into a clear view for security officers and executive committees. It answers questions such as: Where am I exposed? Am I protected against this new threat? What is the likelihood of being impacted? What should I fix first? The solution aligns with the market’s shift toward approaches like CTEM (Continuous Threat Exposure Management), where the focus is not on protecting everything, but on continuously prioritizing and anticipating what truly matters based on real threats.
By combining Predictive Threat Intelligence, Automated Exposure Management, AI-native architecture, and a Threat-Informed Defense approach, NNEAT positions itself in this category. While traditional solutions only block and prevent, NNEAT helps organizations decide and anticipate.
In addition to serving medium and large companies, NNEAT has a strong focus on Managed Security Service Providers (MSSPs) that need to deliver more value by prioritizing cybersecurity investments for their clients. The platform helps clients expand external risk visibility, justify investments with objective criteria, and elevate security discussions to the executive level. It is already being used in industry and food sectors, critical infrastructure, insurance, and public administration.
European recognition
In its first year, NNEAT has been recognized in various innovation and cybersecurity forums, consolidating its positioning as an emerging European startup. The company has participated in prestigious programs such as BIND, the Basque Government and Spri platform for Open Innovation projects in Basque industry, and the CPP3 program of INCIBE, highlighting the potential of its technology. Additionally, it has received financial support from the Plan Industria 2030 program of the Basque Government and Spri, Hazitek, BIC Bizkaia R&D grants, and European funds.
In the words of Dan Brett, CEO and co-founder of NNEAT:
"For years, we have been protecting infrastructures without knowing whether they were ready for the attacks they would actually face. Our mission is to make the invisible visible and help organizations make decisions based on real threats, not assumptions. It is a profound change in how cybersecurity investments are made."
According to Pedro Muñoz, partner at Easo Ventures:
"NNEAT transforms technical data and signals into clear executive decisions. It is a deep tech company with international ambition and a differentiated proposition in an emerging category."
