Barcelona-founded electric scooter rental service Cooltra Motorsharing has acquired Eos Connectivity, a next-generation connected mobility platform that has already been powering of Cooltra's fleet. This strategic acquisition indicates a significant step in Cooltra’s continued consolidation of the European shared mobility market and rapid scalability.
Founded in 2006 as a response to a need for a reliable rental service, Cooltra has evolved to become the largest moped-sharing service in Europe with a fleet of 20,000 motorcycles, 600 electric bicycles, and 400 employees. Cooltra's services are available in Barcelona, Madrid, Valencia, Seville, Rome, Milan, Turin, Lisbon, Paris, and Turin. Also in the Benelux, under the felyx brand.
Eos Connectivity is the next generation connected mobility platform, empowering operators and OEMs alike with its API-centric solutions. Since its foundation, it has been supported by EIT Urban Mobility, an initiative of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), a body of the European Union, that operates in Spain, Italy and Portugal. Eos has also been accelerated by Bcombinator, propelling growth and training the entrepreneurs for driving the expansion towards an exit.
Timo Buetefisch, CEO and founder of Cooltra: “This is a pivotal move that marks the dawn of a new era for Cooltra. With Eos already powering 50% of our fleet, this integration underscores Cooltra's unwavering dedication to revolutionizing urban mobility, ensuring that our riders experience nothing short of excellence every time they embark on their journey. For Cooltra, this move not only strengthens our commitment to cutting-edge mobility solutions but also propels us toward unprecedented innovation. Together, we are poised to redefine the future of connected mobility.”
This acquisition of Eos comes shortly after Cooltra boughtDutch ridesharing platform felyx who continue to operate under the new ownership, but in their own name, in both the Netherlands and Belgium and struggling Parisian Cityscoot in February earlier this year. In significantly increasing its customer base in recent months, Eos Connectivity’s solution acts as an investment to ensure clean transition periods and affirms the ability to continue scaling.
Miguel Vera & Jordi Bruña, co-founders of Eos Connectivity: “We started our journey nearly 4 years ago with one of the best travel partners we could have ever wished for, Cooltra. And thanks to the EIT’s 5G Accelerator Program, who helped us consolidate the foundations of our company, we were prepared to tackle the challenge of providing service to one of the most demanding clients of the shared mobility space. It is a great honour for us to be finally announcing the acquisition of Eos by Cooltra, whose constant insights & collaboration helped us build an amazing product that we’re really proud of. In this next phase, we’ll strive to continue providing the best connected mobility experience and to keep on adding new connected vehicles to our IoT lineup, hand in hand with our now parent company.
Both Cooltra and Eos Connectivity jointly thanked Bcombinator for the support given through the acceleration program and for being the M&A advisor on this operation. Erik Brieva, President of Bcombinator: "We are immensely proud to have contributed playing a key role in the acquisition of Eos Connectivity by Cooltra. This acquisition not only validates the potential we saw in Eos but also highlights the strength of our network and expertise in fostering innovative startups. We look forward to seeing the continued success of Eos under Cooltra's leadership and are excited about the opportunities it brings for the future of connected mobility."
EIT Urban Mobility Investment and Portfolio Manager, Matteo Consonni commented: “We are proud to have supported Eos Connectivity on its journey within our portfolio at EIT Urban Mobility, and we are confident that this acquirement by Cooltra will drive innovation and enhance accessibility in sustainable shared mobility”
