The Spanish startup Mettis AI has closed a €1.1 million funding round combining private investment and public support. The transaction will enable the company to strengthen its technological development, expand its deployment in Spain, and accelerate its international growth.
The round included participation from Dozen Investments, EASO Ventures, RAW Ventures, Biometric Ventures, Suda Partners, business angels from IESE, and Cabify co-founders.
Founded in 2024, Mettis AI provides an objective solution for evaluating driving performance during driving school lessons. Thanks to its proprietary artificial intelligence system and advanced sensors, it analyzes driver behavior at the wheel and converts the data into metrics, optimizing learning and reducing risk. With the backing of Spain’s General Directorate of Traffic (DGT), this pioneering technology does not record images; instead, it processes events and behavioral patterns associated with the student driver, complying with privacy regulations and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and holding the INCIBE (National Cybersecurity Institute) seal and ISO 27001 (ISMS – Information Security Management System) certification.
“Our focus is on understanding human driver behavior and supporting driving schools, instructors, and students. We do not want to replace anyone, only to add objectivity and help both instructors and students detect and correct errors in driving style and patterns. This funding round will allow us to move forward with our expansion and strengthen our technology,” says Filippo Brunelleschi, founder and CEO of Mettis AI.
A patented solution deployed in more than 100 driving schools
To date, the Mettis AI system has processed thousands of sessions across more than 100 driving schools throughout Spain. Among the groups already using this technology are GALA Autoescuela and Educatrafic, among others. The company is currently operating in Madrid, Andalusia, Catalonia, and Aragon, with plans to expand coverage in the coming months.
As the system is rolled out, each session contributes to building one of the world’s most advanced databases of human driving behavior. This infrastructure will enable the development of predictive models capable of anticipating how drivers react in real traffic situations—an essential element for the evolution of driver assistance systems and automated mobility.
The startup holds an international patent that makes it the only system offering objective certification of driving performance through AI and computer vision. Its founding team brings experience in mobility and technological development: Alessio Calenda (COO), Álvaro Sáez Tonda (CTO), Filippo Brunelleschi (CEO), Juan Germán Tapia Perales (CPO), and Mario Marin Arnesto (CBDO).
Italy and France as the first steps in international expansion
Headquartered in Madrid, Mettis AI has chosen Italy and France as the first countries where it already operates outside Spain. Throughout this year, the company plans to expand further into Germany, the United Kingdom, the United States, and the Middle East.
The recent funding round will make it possible to consolidate growth in the domestic market and strengthen its international positioning in the field of artificial intelligence applied to road safety and driver training.
