Metly, the intelligence platform designed for business development teams in the pharmaceutical industry, has closed a €670,000 pre-seed funding round, surpassing its initial target. It is the largest pre-seed round in Spain in 2025 for a female-led startup. The round was led by Encomenda and included participation from Ona Capital, Dozen, and several strategic business angels, including Roberto Urbez, former Vice President for Spain and Portugal at Bristol Myers Squibb.
The company will use the funds to accelerate its commercial growth, expand its sales and marketing team, onboard new clients, and continue improving its AI agents to deliver increasingly accurate recommendations.
The platform that simplifies deal sourcing in the pharmaceutical sector
Metly is an AI-powered platform for business development teams in the pharmaceutical industry. It helps identify new licensing and manufacturing opportunities, assess strategic fit, and connect directly with the right partners — all from a single environment, significantly reducing the time it takes to bring new products to market.
In the pharmaceutical industry, business development (BD) teams are responsible for identifying and closing licensing and manufacturing deals that expand the product portfolio and secure long-term growth. However, this process remains slow and fragmented, relying heavily on personal networks, industry events, and manual research.
Metly was created to solve this problem. The platform uses AI agents to analyze large volumes of regulatory, clinical, and commercial data, identify the most relevant opportunities, and enable direct connections with the right partners — all from a single tool.
“Business development teams are at the heart of pharmaceutical strategy. They decide which products enter the portfolio and which alliances to pursue, but they’re still working with outdated tools,” says Lydia Taranilla, co-founder of Metly. “With Metly, we give them the speed, visibility, and intelligence they need to make better decisions and move faster in an increasingly complex environment.”
The platform already features over 35,000 licenses from more than 550 companies worldwide and is currently expanding into the U.S. and Chinese markets.
Metly was founded by a team with complementary backgrounds in pharma, software, and operations. Lydia Taranilla, leading product, spent several years in the business development division of an international pharmaceutical company, where she experienced the inefficiencies of deal sourcing and management firsthand. CTO Graeme Harris is a software engineer with a strong track record of building products from the ground up. CEO Anna Torrents began her career at Deloitte and later helped scale Onna Technologies as one of its first employees, leading the finance team through key growth stages.
