MCH Private Equity has acquired a minority stake in the Portuguese group Global Health Company (GHC) – Sanfil Medicina, which operates three hospitals and six clinics located in Coimbra, Leiria, Alcobaça, Cantanhede, Lousã, and Pombal.
This transaction marks MCH’s debut in the healthcare sector in Portugal, choosing the central region as its entry point. The fund management firm, founded by Jaime Hernández Soto and José María Muñoz, has partnered with BBT Investimentos, which until now was the sole shareholder of the Coimbra-based company.
The deal, the value of which has not been disclosed, is still subject to approval by the Competition Authority. According to the same source, this investment represents a new phase in the expansion of the Portuguese company, which is currently implementing a growth plan that includes the expansion of the hospitals in Coimbra and Leiria, the construction of a new one in Beja, as well as entry into other regions of the country.
For instance, construction of the new hospital in Leiria began at the end of January. The surgical block, inpatient area, pharmacy and supply services, and parking will all be housed within a single four-storey building (north wing).
“This ambitious project aims to improve and expand the healthcare services offered, in order to meet the growing demand of the local population. The new infrastructure will incorporate the latest technological innovations, providing a modern and functional environment for both patients and healthcare professionals,” stated Sanfil Medicina.
GHC operates in the clinical and hospital healthcare sector under the brands Sanfil Medicina, Diaton, and Nefrovida. Its business model ranges from general hospital care to specialties such as radiology, nuclear medicine (Diaton), and dialysis (Nefrovida). The group’s annual turnover is approximately €67 million, with an EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization) of €8 million.
