The biomedical startup Loop Diagnostics (LoopDx) has announced the launch of a new €5 million funding round, aimed at consolidating its rapid test SeptiLoop®, a pioneering technology for the early detection of bacteremia and sepsis in hospital emergency departments.

Sepsis is a global health problem causing 48.9 million cases and 11 million deaths each year. The test developed by LoopDx measures the immune response ex vivo and delivers results in less than three hours, compared to the 48–72 hours required for a traditional blood culture.

A test with unique advantages

SeptiLoop® shows sensitivity greater than 90% and specificity close to 80%, validated in more than 1,000 patients. Moreover, it detects early immunosuppression even after the administration of antibiotics, something that classical biomarkers fail to achieve. Its low-cost point-of-care format and easy implementation make it a scalable solution for hospitals.

A team with clinical and technological expertise

The company was founded by:

  • Enrique H. Jiménez, PhD – CEO & CSO, immunologist with over 25 publications on sepsis.
  • Eduard Guerrero, MSc – COO, expert in IVD quality systems.
  • Joan Vieyra, MSc – CTO, biomedical engineer specialized in microfluidics.

The team is completed by six professionals and a board of clinical advisors recognized in the field of sepsis.

Business model and international expansion

LoopDx operates under a B2B model, generating recurring revenues through the sale of SeptiLoop® consumables to hospitals (margin of 70–90%), with initial commercialization through distributors in Europe and the UK, followed by expansion into the US.

Public health impact

“The goal of LoopDx is to reduce sepsis mortality by accelerating diagnosis. Each hour of delay in administering antibiotics increases mortality by 7.6%. Our technology enables earlier intervention, optimizes antibiotic use, and helps combat antimicrobial resistance,” explains Enrique H. Jiménez, CEO of the company.

Funding and next steps

The company previously closed a €650,000 pre-seed round in April 2023 through Capital Cell, complemented by an ENISA participatory loan and NextGeneration-EU grants, reaching a total accumulated funding of €3 million.

With the new €5 million post-seed round planned for Q4 2025, LoopDx will allocate the funds as follows:

  • 60%: health-economic trial to scale sales.
  • 20%: commercial expansion in EU-5 and the UK.
  • 10%: R&D for new developments.
  • 10%: marketing and exploration of new indications (respiratory infection, neonatal sepsis, immuno-oncology).

Presence at Al Andalus Innovation Venture 2025

LoopDx will present its project at the fourth edition of Al Andalus Innovation Venture (AAIV25), to be held on September 24–25, 2025, in Seville. The event will bring together investors, startups, and corporations, supported by organizations such as the Regional Government of Andalusia, the City of Seville, ICEX, ENISA, Santander Startups, among others.
