The Funding Advisory Real Estate team at KPMG has advised Atlético de Madrid on the bidding process for the Aquatic Centre, an emblematic project with significant urban and strategic impact for the city of Madrid.
This week, the official presentation event for the project that will transform the former Aquatic Center into a multifunctional complex for entertainment, sports, and education was held in the vicinity of the Riyadh Air Metropolitano. Miguel Ángel Gil, CEO of the sports club, hosted the event, which was also attended by José Luis Martínez-Almeida, Mayor of Madrid.
The presentation also featured speeches by Pino Sagliocco, President of Live Nation Spain, and Chris Granger, CEO of Oak View Group (OVG). Together with the club, both companies form Barsento, the entity responsible for this project. It has been designed with the aim of helping Madrid strengthen its position as a leading cultural and recreational destination at both national and European levels, while also positively impacting the local economy by attracting tourism and international events. Also present at the event were Almudena Maíllo, President of the San Blas–Canillejas district council, and Inmaculada Sanz, Delegate for Works and Equipment, as well as Jesús Núñez, President of Grupo UAX, and Alfonso Arroyo, Deputy to the Presidency of GO fit.
“We have spent nearly 15 years searching for a way to bring this site to life, convinced that it could become the best leisure and entertainment space in the city. Today we can say we got it right, because the key has been finding truly complementary activities that will generate real value for the district. Having a music arena in partnership with Live Nation and OVG, an academic and vocational training campus of UAX’s caliber, and the sports facilities that GO fit will bring fills us with pride. This project is the result of years of determination. Atlético de Madrid has acted as a major integrator, bringing together efforts and ambitions around a €400 million investment, and finding the pieces that complement and strengthen our Sports City. Thank you, sincerely, to everyone who made this possible,” said Miguel Ángel Gil.
The multifunctional complex, whose construction will begin shortly, will be structured around three pillars: an indoor music arena with capacity for more than 20,000 people, an educational campus for 2,300 students led by Grupo UAX, and a sports center managed by GO fit with capacity for 9,000 users.
This initiative is independent of, yet complementary to, the Sports City. Together, both projects will transform the area surrounding the Riyadh Air Metropolitano into a unique space for leisure and sports, serving both local residents and visitors from around the world.
