Citibox, a Spanish company specializing in technology solutions for e-commerce parcel delivery and returns through smart residential mailboxes, has closed a €100 million financing round aimed at accelerating its growth across Europe. This represents the largest recent transaction in Spain’s last-mile logistics infrastructure sector.

The transaction is led by Ithaka Infrastructure Partners and combines €70 million in equity with €30 million in debt financing. Within the equity portion, Ithaka is contributing €55 million and will join the company as a new shareholder with a seat on the board of directors. The remaining €15 million has been provided by existing shareholders, led by Pedro Tortosa, who are reaffirming their commitment to the company.

"The operation validates Citibox as a neutral operator of critical infrastructure for the long-term development of last-mile logistics," company sources explain.

Headquartered in Madrid, Citibox has developed a network of smart mailboxes installed in residential buildings, enabling users to receive and return online orders directly from their homes. The company currently operates more than 60,000 mailboxes in cities such as Madrid, Barcelona, and London, along with a network of 7,000 convenience points, creating a large-scale, neutral urban logistics infrastructure across both public and private spaces.

With this new funding, Citibox plans to deploy 600,000 additional smart mailboxes, initially in Spain and the UK, with further expansion into other European cities over time.

As part of its growth strategy, the company has recently signed a Europe-wide collaboration agreement with Amazon. Under this agreement, Amazon customers will be able to receive their parcels directly in Citibox’s smart residential mailboxes, with 24/7 access for maximum convenience.

"The alliance with Amazon represents a key step in our mission to transform parcel delivery in European cities," said David Bernabeu, founder and CEO of Citibox. "By centralizing deliveries at a single point within each building, couriers can make faster, safer, and more efficient deliveries, reducing travel distances and delivery times with a positive impact on urban sustainability. In fact, consolidating deliveries within buildings can reduce CO₂ emissions associated with last-mile logistics by up to 69%," he added.

Sergio Salvatori, Head of Amazon’s Pickup Point Network in Europe, stated: "At Amazon, we are always looking for ways to make life easier for our customers and adapt to their lifestyles. This agreement with Citibox, which operates the largest residential mailbox network in Europe, allows us to offer greater flexibility and convenience, enabling customers to collect their orders directly from their building 24 hours a day, seven days a week."

Citibox’s model not only enhances the user experience but also improves the efficiency of urban logistics by reducing the number of delivery trips required and lowering the carbon footprint of the process by up to 69%.

Ithaka Infrastructure Partners, led by Alejandro Seco Barragán, Esther Adroher Pérez, and Hermenegildo Franco, is an investment manager with extensive experience in infrastructure investments. In recent years, it has been involved in projects within the sports sector, including partnerships with FC Porto to upgrade the Estádio do Dragão and long-term operating agreements with top-tier football clubs.

With this transaction and its strategic alliance with Amazon, Citibox strengthens its position as one of Europe’s leading last-mile logistics infrastructure operators, advancing a more efficient, sustainable, and urban lifestyle-adapted delivery model
