The Catalan SME Gran Bouque invests €3 million to produce olive oil in Móra la Nova and boost its international expansion.

Until now, the company from the Ribera d’Ebre region had specialized in olive cultivation and harvesting on its own estates, but it did not have its own mills — a new line of business it is now launching, which it estimates will allow it to reach annual revenue of up to €10 million. The Catalan SME Gran Bouque has invested €3 million in building its own olive oil mill in Móra la Nova (Ribera d’Ebre). With two decades of experience in the agri-food sector, the company is consolidating its operations and taking a further step forward in the industry by opening a new line of business focused on producing olive oil on its own estates.

For this project, Gran Bouque has received support from ACCIÓ, the agency for business growth under the Department of Enterprise and Labour. Specifically, the company received €1.86 million from the high-impact business investment grant line, in particular from the Nuclear Transition Funds, aimed at promoting business projects in areas affected by the closure of nuclear power plants.

Until now, the company’s main activity focused on cultivating and harvesting olives from its 200 hectares of own land, which were then processed in third-party facilities. Now, with the construction of this production plant, the company is launching a new line of business that will multiply production capacity and increase annual revenue from the current €1.5 million to €10 million. In this context, the company will also create three new jobs with these new facilities.

Founded in Riba-roja d’Ebre, the company recently moved its registered office to Móra la Nova, where it has established a new plant with a processing capacity of over 14,000 kg of olives per hour, three times its current capacity. With this investment, they have acquired the land to build a production facility and the machinery needed to have the “largest olive oil mill in the Ribera d’Ebre”, according to Gran Bouque’s director, Rosa Colsa. Colsa notes, “There are few private mills in the area, and most cooperatives do not have sufficient capacity.”

“We want to create a brand from the territory and dignify our olives and olive oil the way Priorat has done with vineyards and wine,” highlights the company director, who is making a firm commitment to the territory and to producing top-quality extra virgin olive oil. Gran Bouque plans to inaugurate the new facilities in the first quarter of 2026.

Gran Bouque, which already exports to Italy and the United States, plans to expand its international presence into new markets, “while maintaining our essence, based on artisanal quality, respect for the land, and the added value of origin,” explains Colsa. With a growing team, Gran Bouque also leads the Agricultural Cooperative of Móra la Nova. The company highlights the support of ACCIÓ throughout the process: “It is a great opportunity that has allowed us to take a big step forward both as a company and as a territory,” adds the company director.
