GED Ventures Portugal invests in Hope Care, the first company in the European Union to obtain EU MDR Class IIb certification for various health conditions as Software as a Medical Device (SaMD). Based in Óbidos, this Portuguese start-up has developed a Remote Patient Monitoring Triage system that allows healthcare providers to monitor the clinical situation of chronic patients remotely. The company’s mission, according to José Paulo Carvalho, founder and CEO, is “to build a hospital, through technology, providing universal access to health care at home”. Hope Care collects more than a hundred data points from multiple devices available on the market, such as scales, smart watches, thermometers, among others. The information collected is stored on a clinical platform, with the aim of being used by health entities and their patients. With a combination of remote monitoring, telemedicine, and social support, Hope Care’s solution enables patients to receive essential care at home, avoiding unnecessary trips to the hospital.

“Through GED Tech Seed fund, we decided to invest in Hope Care, a Portuguese start-up with an exciting growth potential, which uses innovative digital solutions to improve the quality of life of patients and simultaneously promote the sustainability of the health system”, explains Bibi Sattar Marques, partner and member of the Board of Directors of GED Ventures Portugal. In this context, the Founder of Hope Care highlights that “this important investment will allow Hope Care to consolidate its position in the European market and introduce its innovation in the area of digital health”.

GED is an independent and international financial group, with a presence in Europe, the United States of America and South America. Currently, it manages more than one billion euros in assets in the areas of Venture, Private Equity and Infrastructure, based on the ESG-friendly ethos, present since its foundation and incorporated at all times in the life cycle of its Funds.
