GED takes a further step in its strategy and commitment to sustainability with the inclusion of its Infrastructures Iberia Fund under Article 8 of the Disclosure Regulation (SFDR). This new vehicle seeks to invest in companies providing essential public services that contribute to sustainable development and societal well-being. The focus is on five areas: mobility (roads, railways, and transportation hubs), social infrastructure (hospitals and public buildings such as courts or police stations), environment (water and waste treatment), telecommunications (antennas, fiber optics, and data centers), and renewables (photovoltaic self-consumption for industries and district heating).

The priority is to invest in brownfield assets (in operation), ideally with availability-based payments, covering up to 80% of the fund. The remaining 20% will be allocated to greenfield projects (construction and operation), with a focus on photovoltaic self-consumption for industries, off-market, without surpluses, and with a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), as well as urban heating (district heating).

The fund seeks to promote essential public services that, when managed responsibly and sustainably, contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) outlined in the 2030 Agenda. Specifically, the fund aims to contribute to SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being; SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation; SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy; SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure; and SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities.

GED Capital already has three funds with ‘sustainability objectives’ focused on seeking opportunities for the promotion and development of sustainable infrastructures, within an initiative launched by the European Commission together with the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).

The investment objective of these vehicles is to promote sustainable urban development, with a particular focus on energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy, as well as urban projects involving the rehabilitation of abandoned urban and industrial areas, improvements in transport infrastructure, and the recovery of areas of historical and cultural interest in the Autonomous Community of Andalusia, among others.
