Floatech, a Big Sur Ventures portfolio company, selected by the EIC Advanced Materials Acceleration Program from over 1,000 applicants

Floatech, a Madrid-based battery technology startup and portfolio company of Big Sur Ventures, has been selected by the European Innovation Council (EIC) to join the prestigious Advanced Materials Acceleration Program, with only 61 companies chosen out of nearly 1,000 applications.

This recognition strengthens Floatech’s position among Europe’s most promising deep-tech innovators in energy storage and represents the company’s third EIC Seal of Excellence under the Strategic Technologies for Europe Platform (STEP). It also marks Floatech’s successful transition from research and development to an industrial, market-ready solution.

Floatech is a global leader in the development and manufacturing of high-performance 100% silicon battery anodes. Its patented Floating Catalyst Chemical Vapour Deposition (FCCVD) process and proprietary product Si⋮Coil®, designed to replace conventional graphite anodes, are now entering an accelerated industrialization phase.

The company plans to complete this phase within the next two years and establish a mega factory by 2029 to supply the electronics sector, while initiating partnerships with automotive manufacturers. Floatech expects to begin supplying electric vehicle gigafactories in 2030.

Founded in 2021 as a spin-off from the IMDEA Materials Institute, Floatech is moving forward with determination to build a European value chain for next-generation batteries, including solid-state batteries, and to strengthen Europe’s technological independence in advanced energy materials
