EIT Manufacturing, Europe’s largest manufacturing innovation community supported by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), a body of the European Union, will invest over € 15 million in 2025 to make industry more competitive and sustainable through collaborative projects. Starting this January, 29 projects will kick off, including six with Spanish involvement, supported by more than € 3.7 million in funding. Spanish organisations are playing a key role advancing initiatives focused on real-time data, simulation and AI, all aimed at fostering greener manufacturing practices.

These projects have been selected through the annual Call for Proposals, EIT Manufacturing’s key initiative to promote resilient, sustainable and human-centered manufacturing across Europe. It invites applications in three categories: Innovation, Education and the Regional Innovation Scheme (RIS), which particularly supports countries with moderate or emerging levels of innovation. A core requirement to apply is forming consortia with at least three legal entities from different countries.

EIT Manufacturing West, one of six regional offices based in San Sebastián (Spain), successfully brought together key players - including corporations, SMEs, startups, technology centers and universities - to spark valuable collaborations. As a result, six selected activities involve Spanish organisations, making up over 20% of the initiatives supported at the European level and nearly 25% of the € 15 million allocated in the Call 2025.

BeChained: from startup to activity leader

Spanish participation is particularly strong in the innovation category: 5 out of the 16 accepted innovation projects include at least one partner from Spain. The Automotive Technology Centre (CTAG), based in Pontevedra, Galicia, is involved in three of these projects and furthermore is part of the only aproved education project with Spanish involvement. Is is called Data to Decision and aims to develop an innovative blended learning programme that will equip mid-level managers, senior decision-makers and executives with the knowledge and practical skills needed to transform data into actionable insights.

Another outstanding example of Spanish involvement is BeChained, who will lead the AEON project. Collaborating with end users in Italy and Poland, they are working to advance their AI-powered technology for continuous energy consumption optimization. In 2025, the project aims to deliver significant improvements in operational efficiency and energy management across both use cases, paving the way for large-scale commercial deployment in the manufacturing sector.

Innovation projects develop data driven solutions

Additionally, Spanish organisations will be involved in delivering the following selected innovation projects:

VIVELAB-EXPO: aims to provide a new way to assess the suitability of exoskeletons in the workplace through simulation. By conducting this assessment in a fully virtual environment, the method helps reduce both time and costs.
RESTORE: offers a B2B SaaS solution for waste management and material traceability, using IoT sensors to optimize processes and encourage the reuse and recycling of materials.
AMMP: works on a SaaS solution that incorporates a digital twin to manage industrial and collaborative robots in manufacturing lines, enhancing operational efficiency and improving worker satisfaction with its user-friendly interfaces.
Do Ré MI: focuses on optimising manufacturing sequences and enhancing resource efficiency by using AI algorithms and digital twins for machine learning.

About EIT and EIT Manufacturing

The European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) is Europe’s largest innovation ecosystem bringing together over 2400+ partners from top business, research and education organisations across Europe in 60 innovation hubs. The EIT is an EU body and an integral part of Horizon Europe, the EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation. Through dynamic pan-European partnerships, called Knowledge and Innovation Communities (KICs) the EIT Community provides a wide range of innovation and entrepreneurship activities, strengthening Europe’s ability to innovate and powering solutions to pressing global challenges while nurturing entrepreneurial talent to create sustainable growth and skilled jobs in Europe.

EIT Manufacturing is one of the nine innovation communities supported by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), a body of the European Union. EIT Manufacturing’s main goal is to bring European stakeholders focused on manufacturing together in innovation ecosystems that add unique value to European products, processes and services and inspire the creation of globally competitive and sustainable manufacturing. EIT Manufacturing brings together more than 170 members (universities, research institutes and companies).

EIT Manufacturing is structured in six different regions, including the West region, whose offices are located in San Sebastian. EIT Manufacturing West started operating in May 2020 and serves three countries: France,
