Crowdcube funded business, Revolut, becomes Britain’s biggest-ever fintech after raising close to £600m in its latest funding round led by two global investors, SoftBank’s Vision Fund and Tiger Global.

This is hugely exciting for the investors that backed Revolut through Crowdcube, in their first crowdfunding campaign in 2016; over 100 of which now have shares worth over £1m, which represents a 600x increase in the value of their stake in the fintech giant. Those investors were able to access the opportunity to invest in the business at such an early-stage in its growth, which previously just wouldn’t have been possible.

Revolut’s funding news also signals that British fintech is booming! This is a huge validation of British fintech and everything we’ve all achieved over the past decade. You can check out a few fintech opportunities that are currently live on Crowdcube today.

Revolut raised just over £1m from 433 crowd investors via Crowdcube in July 2016, only a year after the company was founded, and at the same time as Balderton Capital and Index Ventures, the leading venture capital firms, made investments.

The average investment during the Crowdcube round was £2,152, with investors building on a portfolio of 7 investments with Crowdcube. The majority of people who invested categorised themselves as Everyday Investors (47%), with High-Net-Worth Investors and Self-Certified Sophisticated Investors accounting for 26% and 23% respectively, and 4% Advised Investors.

The company attracted investment from 27 countries, including the UK, France, Spain, Germany and New Zealand, demonstrating how investors from across the globe have the opportunity to invest in the next generation of businesses through Crowdcube.
